Primary Job Responsibility:



Provide technical and professional skills/knowledge in the testing, troubleshooting, configuring, installing, rebuilding, repairing, and calibration of instrumentation and electrical systems to ensure reliable, accurate and safe operation of our operating facility. Ensure work is in accordance with NEC, NFPA70E, and good engineering practices.



Description of Job Duties:



I&E duties will include but may not be limited to the following list of routine craft responsibilities:



  • Installing, inspecting, maintaining, operating, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating various mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical and electronic equipment. Along with completing all appropriate documentation associated with the duties.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, configure, and calibrate various types of transmitters, sensors, switches, and analyzers.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate weigh scale systems.
  • Support troubleshooting and repairing DCS and PLC's.
  • Route and Install tubing to include steam tracing on process equipment.
  • Preform various weekly PM's to ensure the integrity of our equipment.
  • Install and repair electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical components of industrial machinery and equipment.
  • Wiring of panels, connect power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connects cables and wires between MCC and field equipment.
  • Use electronic and electrical testing equipment to test and trouble shoot electrical machines, such as transformers, motors, breakers, contactors, relays, overloads, VFD drives and lighting fixtures.
  • Read and understand electrical drawings, schematic diagrams and equipment manuals and be able to redline mark prints with changes for record keeping.
  • Have sound knowledge of the NEC code and NFPA70E codes to safely perform electrical duties
  • Occasionally work with high voltage electricity and electric generating equipment; and hazardous chemicals including oils and other hydrocarbons, and around very hot process vessels, piping, and other equipment.
  • Disciplined approach to work orders, work permits, Safety Data Sheets, and other documents to perform assigned work accurately and safely.
  • Using computer terminals to open and close work orders, enter parts and other material requisitions, and perform other tasks as assigned.
  • Available for after-hours call out on a rotation basis with other similar craft technicians.
  • Must be able to understand and adhere to environmental, health, safety, security, and quality policies.





Required Knowledge / Skills / Experience:




  • Work requires an educational background normally acquired through a degree in Instrumentation or Electrical, or an equivalent combination of relevant education or Dual NCCER Certification in Instrumentation & Electrical.
  • 5 or more years' experience working in a instrumentation/electrical industrial work environment
  • Computer literacy for word processing and other business applications to include calibration and configuration software.
  • Good interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
  • Needs to be self-driven and be able to work with minimum supervision
  • Be flexible and prepared to work occasional overtime as and when required by process and plant equipment
  • Have good hand-eye coordination and hand tool skills and be able to work under pressure
  • Ability to read and understand P&ID's, loop sheets, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Ability to work under stress and function as a good team player that can integrate into a dynamic I&E maintenance team at Seadrift Coke.
  • Good working knowledge of Millimeters and other test equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret standard task procedures and equipment operating manuals.



Preferred Skills:




  • Associates Degree in Instrumentation or Electrical

Working Conditions:




  • Minimum work 40 hours per week plus occasional overtime.
  • At least 80% of work time may be spent standing or walking.
  • Be available for rotating after hours call out.
  • Ability to lift or pull with a minimum of about fifty pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders and lengthy flights of stairs.
  • Occasionally operate a man lift to perform job duties.
  • Be able to obtain and maintain TWIC certification.
  • Be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
  • Willing to work around hot process equipment and hazardous chemicals with the proper PPE.
