Experience and Education



  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, or Respiratory Therapy
  • 3 years of experience in clinical discipline; Liaison, marketing experience preferred
  • Preference for a candidate with prior experience in post-acute care settings, ideally inpatient rehabilitation facilities.
  • Networking abilities, computer skills and familiarity with Prospective Payment system for Rehab required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).


Job Duties

  • Serves as a liaison and point of contact with all current and future referral sources to ensure that all processes related to patient admission/transfers is standardized, of consistently high quality and allows for seamless occurrence.
  • Develops and plans all activities associated with community clinical outreach efforts. Develops and maintains a strong census enhancement program and a plan to maintain volumes and cover anticipated discharges each week.
  • Establishes an ongoing marketing plan that clearly identifies: New referral contacts and plan for building a business relationship, identification of Top 20 referral sources and plan to assure their continued referral commitment, referral contacts that have fallen off and plan to recapture business, clear volume expectations, specific targets for building referred business from a diverse and extensive referral base, and implementation of strategies to create referrals/admissions to achieve appropriate patient census mix.
  • Maintains process for assessing current referral patterns for selected target areas by identifying physician referral patterns, health related community events, established physician practices and major gatekeepers in outreach and network communities.
  • Establishes and promotes collaborative relationships with physicians, payers and other members of the healthcare team, including non-UTSW physicians (vendor management).
  • Seeks opportunities to increase the growth of business within the assigned communities, identifying and cultivating potential referral sources relevant to the population served. Interviews patient, family, physician and discharge planners to gather information and determine special needs.
  • Communicates special needs to appropriate staff. Adheres to admission needs regarding patient transfer and coordination. Exceeds screening and admission targets by establishing influence in market segments, including, but not limited to physicians, practitioners, social services, hospitals, professional organizations, etc. through a variety of avenues such as personal appointments and visits, phone calls, letters, emails and conferences.
  • Leads a pro-active business development program through by developing valid account relationships out in the field with key referral sources at least 80% of time. Serves as a resource to other staff members and promotes a collegiality between staff physicians and leaders.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary healthcare teams to facilitate the integration of managed care concepts within the daily practice standards. Acts as a consultant within the organization and in the community.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies. Directs a community relations program consisting of speakers, tours, displays, etc.
  • Assures hospital is considered an educational source for patient services information. Provides ongoing monitoring and analysis of trends, issues, and data to improve systems of communication between the hospital and its public, and to build confidence in the institution.
  • Serves as a representative and member of the marketing team. Participates in community activities and educational in-services/seminars. Educates hospital based or other health care professionals and physicians as well as patients and families regarding services and programs.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Working Conditions

  • Work is primarily performed in a hospital unit/environment.
  • The incumbent may be exposed to body fluids and infectious diseases.
  • Constant walking, standing, bending, turning, and stooping.
