Job Summary

UT Southwestern is in search of a skilled and experienced Pest Control Technician, Licensed as a Commercial Applicator with 3A Category (Lawn & Ornamental) for our Landscape Services team.

This position works under general supervision to provide the skills necessary for controlling pests and extermination of rodents, insects, and other pests in and around UT Southwestern buildings and properties; and maintenance of lawns and/or ornamental plants grown for function or aesthetic purposes in landscapes.

Work Location: Dallas Campus; assist other UTSW sites when necessary.

Shift Requirement: Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM; and on-call.



Minimum Experience and Education Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma, vocational school, or equivalent (GED).
  • Requires one (1) year of work experience in pest control and/or extermination.
  • Requires an active Commercial Applicator with 3A Category (Lawn & Ornamental) license by either the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) or the Structural Pest Control Service (SPCS), formerly the Structural Pest Control Board but now part of TDA.

  • Work requires good organizational skills.



Working Conditions

  • Work is performed primarily in an indoor and outdoor hospital and university environments, including clinical, non-clinical, laboratory, classroom, general office, or outside landscape areas.
  • Working conditions involve exposure to one or more disagreeable elements, such as dust, dirt, heat, moisture, cold conditions, and contact with animals, animal odors, lifting, moving heavy equipment, and occasional work where biohazardous, chemicals, or zoonotic diseases will require use of appropriate safety procedures.



Job Duties

  • Specifies and purchases pesticides, rodenticides, insecticides, and proper equipment relative to pest control within institution and related facilities.
  • Inspects facilities and performs proper treatment based on pests, pest habits, pesticides, type, use and structural condition of buildings.
  • Mixes and sprays chemical solutions for various methods of pest extermination within specified areas.
  • Responds to emergency pest infestations and advises clients on preventative measures regarding reinfestations to control pests with area and related facilities.
  • Maintains records of pesticides used, dosage, dates, times, and places of application to ensure proper storage, usage, inventories, retention, and disposal of pesticides in compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Follows up on service concerns relative to pest control.
  • Assists Grounds Division with pest control.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
