Job Description

Conduct research to understand the molecular basis of soybean cyst nematode (SCN) resistance and develop gene-edited soybean lines to improve nematode resistance and root system architecture for stress resilience.

Duties: Responsibilities include gene cloning, plasmid design, soybean hairy root and composite plant construction, perform transgenic study, conduct gene-editing experiment, phenotyping for SCN resistance. The candidate is required to analyze and interpret data, prepare manuscripts, supervise students and other members on the team, help project investigator in report preparation, grant proposal writing, and coordinate and collaborate research activities among people engaged in this area within and outside of the University.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in plant sciences or a related field by the time of appointment.

Candidates will be evaluated on: Experience in plant molecular biology. A strong background to manage and interpret a large amount of data generated from molecular studies. Ability to maintain a good working relationship with other research fellows in a large research group. Excellent communication skills, potential for collaborative research, ability to work independently and cooperatively, advising students on the research team, and writing skills for grant proposals and journal articles.
