RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:

Leadership for safety and environmental for Maintenance Department:

  • Ensure a safe workplace and regulatory compliance with Federal (MSHA), State, local, and Company policies.

  • Drive team member's environmental performance and ensure all permit/regulatory requirements are met.

  • Support Environmental Health and Safety initiatives and awareness programs.

  • Be a leader and promoter of a safety culture.

  • Ensure employees have a clear understanding of expected safety performance and the required training.

  • Ensure proper training programs are implemented for new maintenance employees.

  • Actively participate in audits for regulatory, safety and environmental compliance at the site.

Direct maintenance, electrical, and storeroom to meet short and long-range objectives with optimum efficiency:

  • Plan maintenance and capital budgets through the identification of plant opportunities while using corporate guidelines and tools.

  • Develop and implement improved maintenance processes and productivity improvements aimed at optimizing the overall productivity of the plant and driving cost reductions through use of RAT and RCFA (reliability assessment teams & root cause failure analysis).

  • Ensure regulatory compliance is maintained and documented for all necessary record keeping - including but not limited to: MSHA, ISO, safety and environmental.

  • Responsible for spare parts inventory management to ensure storeroom allocates all inventory items to the proper work order or cost center. Supports storeroom management with cycle counts and responsibility for managing count discrepancies.

  • Support engineering and automation efforts in the planning, design, procurement, installation, start up, and training for capital investments.

  • Directs and prioritizes needed repairs.

  • Regularly advises production/plant management of needed equipment status and repair.

  • Leads the identification of and resolution of equipment failures.

  • Allocates resources appropriately in the face of competing demands.

  • Communicate effectively with all maintenance employees.

  • Clearly establish and communicate the vision for the department.

  • Creates a culture of trust and open communication.

Leadership and development of Employees:

  • Be a positive leader - driving continuous improvement, communication, cross functional training as well as total productive maintenance with site production personnel.

  • Administer, develop, and deliver site relevant maintenance topics for maintenance staff and production personnel. Leverage vendor relationships to assist with training on relevant to maintenance team as well as total productive maintenance topics with site production team,

  • Be the driving force to change site culture from reactive maintenance to preventative / predictive maintenance striving for improved administration, reliability and overall asset management.

  • Establish Key Performance Indicators to measure implementation and progress of goals.

  • Provide hands-on structure, direction, and feedback to the maintenance team

  • Readily share information and develop the maintenance team by delegating to their strengths

  • Set clear guidelines and expectations for the maintenance team

  • Provide clear and honest feedback to direct reports and those managed through projects

  • Provide guidance and mentoring to see staff develop to meet full potential.

Manage Amargosa capital projects:

  • Plan and assist in capital expansions, machine and equipment replacement, and changes in technology and general process improvements.

  • Lead plant's capital budget process.

  • Together with the plant manager, establish the plant's five-year plan for capital projects.

  • Review capital projects for the proper application of equipment and process technology.

  • Oversee the work of engineering firms or general contractors in the execution of capital projects.

  • Assist the regional environmental manager in preparing permit applications.

  • Manage capital projects to insure they are completed on time and within budget.

Manage site sub-contractors:

  • Coordinate availability of subcontractors for various site projects.

  • Ensure contractors are in compliance with Lhoist policies and procedures including licenses and required insurance levels.

  • Oversee subcontractors with respect to their safety, manpower, parts, materials, equipment while on site.

  • Hold regular communication meetings with subcontractor as needed.

  • Effectively manage the selection and utilization of contractors

Identify, analyze and review maintenance spend:

  • Monthly review of maintenance spend (actual versus budget), and communicate variances to upper management, as well as, hourly staffing costs.

  • Proactively analyze maintenance spend data for the purposes of identifying budget drivers and then implementing actionable improvements.

  • Promote cost savings by managing consumable spends including but not limited to welding supplies, fasteners, gases, lubricants, and tools.

  • Coordinate availability of manpower, parts, materials, equipment.

  • Work with maintenance planner / scheduler as well as hourly staff to perform material kitting for upcoming work.

Other duties as assigned.

Safe Quality Food (SQF)

  • Ensure a SQF workplace and follow regulatory compliance with Federal FDA - Food Modernization Safety Act (CFR Code of Federal Regulations Title 21, Part 507).

  • Support Environmental Health and Safety, as well as SQF initiatives and awareness programs.

  • Be a leader and promoter of employee safety and SQF culture.

  • Following completion of SQF training, demonstrate understanding of expected safety, SQF performance and Food Safety Culture.

  • Complete periodic SQF training(s).

  • Each site location will ensure training is conducted for new employees and continued for existing employees.

  • Employees will actively participate in audits for regulatory, safety, SQF and environmental compliance at the site.

ATTRIBUTES:

  • Knowledge and application in the management and administration of maintenance labor / equipment data and use of the CMMS system is essential.

  • Strong knowledge of electrical power infrastructure and process control systems

  • Must be capable of work any shift, seven days, or holidays, if needed. Solid daily attendance is required

  • Desire for career growth and upward mobility in plant management.

  • Knowledge and understanding of formal budgeting and forecasting tools / software.

  • Formal training in the maintenance planning and scheduling function is desired.

  • Excellent organization, time management, communication and people skills are a must.

  • Knowledge of MS Word and Excel is required. SAP experience is a plus.

  • Demonstrated management and financial leadership experience.

  • Ability to understand and analyze key business drivers, develop action plans, and execute improvements.

  • Ability to multi-task, with excellent organizational and communication skills, proven problem-solving skills, and can "think outside the box".

  • Forward looking, action-oriented, team player that works well with all departments internal and external.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Must be physically able to perform work assigned.

  • Must be physically capable of accessing all plant locations.

  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 150 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.

  • Will be working at times in covered environment but mainly in a clay/mineral environment.

  • The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Clay/Mineral Particles.

  • The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting.

  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to travel up 15 % as needed or directed by leadership.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance Engineering, or a technical-related field with equivalent combination of education and experience with at least one professional certification (e.g. CMRT, MRM, PMP, Lean / 6 Sigma, Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program graduate, P.E., etc.) and/or equivalent work experience in the field is desired.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least five to seven years of previous proven hands-on maintenance leadership experience with a strong background in electrical, PLC, and mechanical processes in a fast-paced heavy manufacturing, construction, and/or mining environment. Previous electrical or mechanical experience is required. Development and implementation of reliability systems and programs are desired.
