Overview

NV5 is excited to offer an internship opportunity for a Civil Engineering Intern to join our growing Pacific Northwest team. This role will primarily support our Transportation Design team, with opportunities to collaborate with the Development Services team, providing a broad range of civil engineering experiences. Located in the vibrant Treasure Valley region of Southwest Idaho, this position offers exposure to a variety of transportation and site development projects.

Responsibilities

    Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers to address project challenges and develop construction documents using survey data, sketches, existing drawings, and written/verbal instructions.
  • Assist with the design and drafting of transportation infrastructure and development projects of varying sizes, including highways, rural roadways, bridges, and site developments for residential, commercial, and industrial use.
  • Perform design and analysis for roadway, drainage, utility, bridge/culvert infrastructure, site grading, and hydraulic systems related to transportation and development projects.
  • Support the preparation of construction plans, including plan, profile, and cross-section development, grading, and drainage design, and contribute to quantity summaries.
  • Research and resolve technical challenges using available resources.
  • Work closely with Engineers and EITs to ensure the accuracy and clarity of construction drawings.
  • Adhere to in-house and client-specific drafting and design standards.
  • Contribute to 3D surface modeling and design drafting; experience with 3D modeling is a plus.
  • Perform additional project-related duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 0-3 years of experience in civil engineering, with a focus on transportation projects or related academic coursework.
  • Familiarity with civil design software, such as MicroStation InRoads/OpenRoads or Autodesk Civil3D, is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and .pdf editing tools (e.g., Bluebeam Revu).
  • Basic knowledge of GIS and ESRI software is advantageous.
  • Understanding of design principles for utilities, roadways, infrastructure, and bridges.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a team-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrates reliability, punctuality, and a commitment to learning best practices.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to meet company insurability requirements.
