Responsibilities
Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 server administration for Windows Operating Systems and associated applications, including Internet Information Services (IIS).
- Offer 24x7x365 support, with exceptions for Federal holidays, ensuring system availability and minimizing incidents.
- Perform advanced system administration tasks and immediate troubleshooting when contacted by the National Service Desk (NSD).
- Collaborate with project managers, team members, technical administrators, and end users to communicate work status and findings related to tickets, incidents, and problems.
- Implement security hardening requirements and configurations based on instructions from VA counterparts outlined in Service Requests and Change Orders.
- Possess and utilize advanced knowledge of Windows operating systems, including OS included applications like IIS.
- Maintain certifications such as Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) in 2008 or 2012, with MCSE preferred.
- Leverage experience in a large infrastructure environment, with Data Center experience being a plus.
- Demonstrate proficient troubleshooting skills, promptly resolving issues and identifying underlying faults.
- Collaborate with both customers and vendors to address system issues.
- Manage patching, certificates, and remediation of known vulnerabilities.
- Escalate or transfer tickets as needed to VA staff for further issue resolution.
- Coordinate with stakeholders to provide updates on ticket status or request system changes.
- Maintain accurate documentation of assigned workspace and procedures, including software and hardware layers.
Utilize tools extensively, including but not limited to:
- PowerShell
- VMWare, vSphere Web Client
- Performance Monitor & Computer Management Console
- Remote Desktop, RDCman
- SCCM, AD, DNS
- Service Now, CA Service Desk
Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of Windows operating systems, including associated applications like IIS.
- MCSA certification in 2008 or 2012, with MCSE preferred.
- Extensive experience in a large infrastructure environment, with Data Center experience being desirable.
- Experience with supporting servers in AWS and Azure is a plus.
- Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to resolve incidents and identify underlying issues.
- Familiarity with tools such as PowerShell, VMWare, vSphere Web Client, Performance Monitor & Computer Management Console, Remote Desktop, RDCman, SCCM, AD, DNS, and Service Now/CA Service Desk.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with various stakeholders.
- Proven ability to implement security hardening measures and configurations.
- Demonstrated experience in managing patching, certificates, and addressing vulnerabilities.
- Strong documentation skills for maintaining accurate records of procedures and workspaces.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, electronics engineering or related technical discipline and 5+ years' work experience
- Eight (8) years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education (13 years total)
Clearance:
- The ability to pass a Tier 2/Moderate Background Investigation
