Job Description Summary: |
The laboratory of Dr. David Watkins is looking for a talented Research Associate who is interested in working in the development and efficacy testing of vaccines, diagnostics, and therapeutic drugs against virus and other diseases including cancers. The Watkins' lab has been focused on understanding the immune response to viruses and regularly works with BSL2 pathogens such as
HIV/
SIV, Dengue, Zika, and Yellow Fever. We also perform work under BSL3 conditions to handle pathogens like Coronaviruses, and influenza among others. This research support position independently carries out research/development activities by designing and conducting experiments in a controlled laboratory setting, under general guidance from the Principal Investigator or his designee. Using a certain degree of creativity and latitude, the core responsibilities of this position include making data collection and administration of experimental procedures, making detailed observations, analyzing data, and interpreting results. This role compiles results, prepares technical reports and documentation of outcomes, and assists with the preparation of results for publication. This role has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. The position will perform diverse experiments including cell culture maintenance, cell preparation from animal tissues, bacterial cloning and plasmid prep,
PCR, protein purification, and flow cytometry analysis. Responsibilities include:
- Performs mammalian cell culture and bacterial
DNA preps.
- Processes animal blood into different components and use in immunological techniques.
- Works independently and researches topics on their own, prior to review of senior scientists
- Plans and schedules experiments consistent with the timeline and objectives of ongoing research projects.
- Aids research scientists within the laboratory with their day to day experiments.
- Assists in the preparation of manuscripts and grants.

Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a master's degree and 1 year of experience in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. |

* Skills in immunology-based techniques like flow cytometry,
ELISA, and bacterial cloning.
* Experience in microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, virology. |

$53,853.78 - $75,348.30 |
