Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Epidemiology is one of the seven departments located in the Gillings School of Global Public Health. The department's primary focus is to the development and application of research methods to understand the patterns and causes of health and disease, and the application of that knowledge to improving the health of populations. We provide strong training in research methods and opportunities for the application of epidemiology to a wide range of health problems through our research. The achievements of our faculty, staff, students, and alumni have enabled us to become one of the leading academic departments of epidemiology in the world. The department has 38 Tenured-Tenure Track / 10 Joint Tenure-Track Faculty, 25 Fixed Term / 4 Joint Fixed Term Faculty, 120 Adjuncts, 22 EHRA Non-Faculty, 20 Postdocs, 46 SHRA (Staff), 29 SHRA Temporary and 202 Students. The department's operating budget is 27 million a year.
Position Summary
The person to fill this position will be part of a highly productive team translating fundamental immunology and structural biology concepts into vaccine candidates for human norovirus. We are seeking candidates with extensive immunological, virological and/or molecular biology experience who are eager to drive vaccine studies from candidate design and testing in in vitro and in vivo models to clinical/epidemiological sample testing. The candidate will interact with both academic and industrial partners to achieve program goals.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
PhD with completed degree in Virology, Immunology and/or Microbiology required
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Demonstrated molecular biology skills including cloning and protein expression
* Demonstrated immunology skills including familiarity with immune assays and multiplex assays
* Ability to work independently within a team
* Organizational and presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Research experience with mice is preferred
* Experience in assay development preferred
* Interest in structural and mathematical modeling preferred
