Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The University Employee Occupational Health Clinic (
UEOHC) provides occupational health care services to all full-time, part-time, and temporary employees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The
UEOHC directs medical care for all workplace injuries/illnesses. The
UEOHC also provides pre-employment screening, annual immunization reviews, and medical surveillance for healthcare and non-healthcare workers. The
UEOHC is part of the
EHS Department. The role of the
EHS department is primarily environment, health, and safety functions at the University. In support of the University's core missions,
EHS will provide comprehensive environmental, health and safety services to the University community. This includes education through training and consultation, maintaining a safe environment through recognizing and controlling health and safety hazards, ensuring a process of regulatory compliance, and minimizing future potential liabilities. By developing
EHS programs and performing various periodic inspections
EHS can provide a safe workplace, ensure a process of compliance, and minimize future potential liabilities.
EHS is organized into eight (8) sections: Biological Safety, Environmental Affairs, Fire Safety & Emergency Response, Occupational & Environmental Hygiene, Chemical Safety, Radiation Safety, Workplace Safety, and the University Employee Occupational Health Clinic. |
Position Summary |
This is a full-time outpatient clinical position that works in the University Employee Occupational Health Clinic (
UEOHC). This position is responsible for making initial diagnoses and first care of work-related illnesses and injuries. The position works closely with and must communicate effectively with the clinic Medical Director; other health care professionals; Environment, Health & Safety staff; and departmental supervisors. The position is responsible for prescribing work restrictions and appropriate restricted duty, follow-up care, and case management. These responsibilities require a broad base of medical knowledge and the ability to work independently. In collaboration with the Medical Director of the Workplace Safety Manager, the position also develops policies and procedures for the
UEOHC. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Licensed to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of North Carolina. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Must have knowledge of professional patient care practices and procedures, medical terminology, disease processes and body systems, pharmacology, and current clinical diagnostic procedures and treatments. Must have the ability to assess and diagnose patient symptoms, interpret medical and clinical information, and order diagnostic tests and procedures when indicated. Must have the ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with patients, their families and healthcare personnel by listening, understanding, and responding to identified needs. Must be able to provide advice and counsel to patients, their families and healthcare personnel. Must have the knowledge of teaching and consulting techniques. Must be able to convey information clearly and concisely either verbally or in writing. Ability to listen and respond appropriately to others. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Graduation and/or completion of an educational program for Physician Assistant accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and an active Physician Assistant License issued by the North Carolina Board of Medical Examiners. |
