Position Summary |
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine is seeking a full-time board certified/ board eligible (BC/BE) Neurointensivist to join our growing group. The successful candidate will join our team of 7 neurointensivists providing neurocritical care services in our state-of-the-art Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (
NSICU) at the University of North Carolina Medical Center in Chapel Hill. The appointment is a full-time, fixed-term or tenure-track faculty appointment. This recruitment is open rank and dependent upon qualification/experience of the candidate. The Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (
NSICU) at
UNC Medical Center is currently a 22-bed unit staffed full-time by neurointensivists; acute care advanced practice providers providing 24/7 coverage; and trainees rotating from neurology, neurosurgery, pulmonary/critical care, and emergency medicine. We have an
ACGME-accredited fellowship training program in Neurocritical Care. In addition to having primary clinical responsibility in the
NSICU, the faculty recruit at times will provide attending services for
ICU neurology consult and primary general neurology inpatients.
UNC Medical Center is a tertiary referral center for the state of North Carolina, a Joint Commission certified Comprehensive Stroke Center, and a Level I trauma center. The
UNC School of Medicine is a US News and World Report 2023 top 30 medical school and, in collaboration with Duke University School of Medicine, is a
NINDS StrokeNet Regional Coordinating Center with a robust Neurology Clinical Trials Unit. We offer a rich academic environment with extensive opportunities for collaborative research within the institution.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
The qualified candidate will have an M.D. or D.O. degree and will be BE/BC through the American Board of Medical Specialties (
ABMS) of Neurology. Additional training in a neurocritical care fellowship is required. The candidate must be
ABMS/
ABPN (American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology) certified/eligible in neurocritical care and be eligible to obtain a North Carolina medical license. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Additional training or substantial experience in providing Neurocritical Care, as well as participating in teaching and research in this sub-specialty. |
