Job Title: Outside Machinist C Location: Pascagoula, MS, US Position Level: Non-Executive Job Type: Full Time GENERAL FUNCTION:
The outside machinist is responsible for installing the vessel's machinery, such as propelling machinery, auxiliary motors, pumps, ventilating equipment, and steering gears. TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities:
- Work from blueprints and use hand tools, calipers, and micrometers.
- Layout passage holes on bulkheads, decks, and other surfaces for connections, such as shafting and steam lines.
- Install below deck auxiliaries, such as evaporators, stills, heaters, pumps, condensers, and boilers, and connect them to steam pipe systems.
- Responsible for testing and inspecting installed machinery and equipment during dock and sea trials.
- May set up and operate machine shop tools such as lathes, boring mills, planers, shapers, slotters, and milling machines to fabricate replacement parts.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of gauges, calipers, micrometers, lathes, boring mills, planers, shapers, slotters, and milling machines.
- Capable of reading blueprints.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
- Prior experience as an outside machinist or boilermaker in a heavy industrial or shipbuilding environment.
- Vocational training in the field of machinists is helpful.
- Minimal 3.5 years of experience.
