Principal Software Engineer - Gaming

Position Summary

The person in this position oversees the development of advanced and long term products as directed by Light & Wonder leadership. Work in a collaborative team environment with a group of exceptionally talented artists, animators, and game designers. Lead the development of architecting both front-end and back-end software solutions for innovative new slot titles. Responsible for leading the design, development, test and implementation of technical solutions in a development environment. Works with company stakeholders in identifying, implementing and testing applications or services that best prepare the company to meet future business goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Contributes to the company's Intellectual Property portfolio and considers external IP when designing new products

  • Oversees development activity to assure that products are built to requirements and designs with sufficient quality and efficiency so they may be profitable

  • Ensures that the product conforms to regulatory requirements and satisfies technical standards

  • Design, architect, code, integrate, test, and debug game software for slot machines, creating solutions to architectural constraints.

  • Ability to rapidly understand requirements, architectures, and development tools within Light & Wonder platform hardware, libraries, and operating systems

  • Deliver effective code reviews for all levels of engineers and software development.

  • Adhere to and improve coding standards and software engineering best practice to write robust software.

  • Contributes to development planning, and provides progress reports to superiors

  • Develops strategies and creates an environment for increasing quality of the products and improving efficiency of development efforts

  • Creates high-level and/or detailed analysis and design of various software/embedded systems/components to be used in Light & Wonder products

  • Trains, monitors, and mentors fellow Engineers on a foundation level of software engineering practices while applying company standards and practices

  • Maintains liaison with Engineers and peers

  • Total commitment to client satisfaction

  • Ability to support multiple projects

  • Acting independently to determine method and procedures for new assignments

  • Proactively researches and evaluates new technologies

  • Determines appropriate time to apply new technologies to new or existing software/hardware solutions

Qualifications

Qualification Requirements:

Training and/or Experience:

  • Minimum of seven years of professional experience in software development team.

  • Two to five years of experience leading development projects

  • Two to five years of experience working the development lifecycles

  • Gaming industry experience is preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in C#, or related programming languages with a strong understanding of object-oriented design concepts.

  • Experience in a 2D and 3D graphics engine is preferred, but not required.

  • Must be able to acquire and hold a Nevada Gaming Card

  • Self-motivated to learn new skills and technologies through self study

  • Must have skill to integrate software to a target platform

  • Expert in Analytical and Design skill with sound knowledge of software development life cycle is required

  • Familiarity with working in a Windows/Microsoft IDE, i.e. Visual Studio.

Education:

  • BSEE, BSCE, BSEET, BSCS, or related field or equivalent experience

  • Master's Preferred
