Working under minimal supervision and reporting to the Security Supervisor, Security Operation Center (SOC) Specialist is responsible for providing quality training of all Security operation functions to Security Senior Officers, Security Officers, and Security Coordinators. In addition, the position will provide technical support for Security Services, to include all monitored alarms, access controls, and building automated systems. The incumbents primary responsibility will be over-site of daily Security Operations Center functions and customer services, by coordinating, planning, and implementing the critical customer service and physical security activities necessary to maintain a safe and secure environment for the people, programs, and property of the Jackson Laboratory. The position will work with the BH Security Supervisor in implementation of all JAX Security policies, SOP's. This position is responsible for emergency dispatch and emergency notification. In addition, the incumbent will train any Security personnel who will be working in the SOC. Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions
- The position will be required to work with all shifts and staffing to complete the required training.
- May be required to present annual Security training for JAX personnel as needed and directed by Security Supervisor.
- Candidate will assist other JAX Global Security sites with technical support and training on Security systems as needed.
- Experience in dispatch duties including multi-tasking during emergency situations and making quick and sound judgments.
- Must be available on short notice to work occasional shift hours for Global Security Services, which will include weekend and off hour shifts.
- Assist Global Security in planning and staffing of JAX special events where security is required.
- Will be responsible for providing Security related monthly, quarterly, and annual metric reports on all security related services to include, alarm monitoring, customer service events, Incident reports and other relevant data.
- Candidate will monitor, update, and maintain the Global Security departmental web site working with Global security management at all sites for updates.
- Coordinate and manage day-today activities within the SOC and cooperates with other functional areas throughout the Laboratory to improve security, maintain a safe work environment and delivering value-added services.
- Performs new employee orientations, security awareness briefings and contractor security presentations as needed and promotes a security/safety-minded culture on campus.
- Assists and provides ongoing management of the Emergency Notification System, training and maintains competency.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Required: H.S. Diploma or GED and at least 2 years' experience with security, emergency management or Law Enforcement.
- Preferred; 5 years' experience in a supervisory role.
- Prior experience and training in dispatch duties.
- Experience responding to, leading and/or managing disaster emergency situations.
- Thorough understanding and experience with incident command system (ICS).
- Ability to coordinate and perform multiple tasks utilizing strong prioritization skills and scrupulous attention to detail, while
understanding the need for confidentiality and punctuality. - Exceptional organizational and time management skills, including the ability to plan, prioritize, schedule, and successfully carry out multiple projects at the same time to successful conclusion with minimum supervision.
- Ability to plan for and complete various work assignments requiring advanced analytical ability, independent judgment, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work in a high-profile environment, providing a polite, professional demeanor while also demonstrating discretion and diplomacy.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills enabling the effective exchange of information with people representing a wide diversity of disciplines and levels of sophistication. Writing skills sufficient to compose effective and persuasive letters, memorandum, reports, and other documents. Ability to adapt communication style depending on audience.
- Experience in management and reporting of data from operational databases is required.
- Ability to take proactive, independent initiative and exercise good judgment in decision making.
- Exceptional skills with MS Office products, database management, SharePoint, financial and human resources information systems, and security software programs.
Pay Range: $48,198 - $80,696 per year, depending on experience.
