BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY: The MRI Technologist, Acute Care will perform a variety of complex, specialized, and technical tasks associated with the operation of high-field strength magnets. Employees under this classification may work with patients under the effects of sedation, or work with acute-care patients in ICU, Cardiac, Breast, Prostate, Advanced Neuro Imaging (fMRI and spectroscopy), or in research units. Work in areas with 24/7 scheduling expectations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Perform complex tasks associated with operating high-field strength magnets and related equipment to produce special radiographic images of specific body parts. Screen patients for MR safety before procedure performance. Assist the radiologist with procedure protocols and performance. Start IVs; administer contrast media as directed and per protocol. Provide for the psychological and physical needs of patients for MR procedures. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: General supervision is received from assigned manager or supervisor. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (ARRT-MR) certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT); or MRI Technologist certification by the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT). PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Two (2) years of experience as an MRI technologist. Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
