Shift: Day, M-F, 4x10-hr, 630am to 5pm; call required for nights, weekends, and University holidays


Department: Operating Room University Hospital


Salary Range: $22.00 - $34.74, based on experience. $2.50 per hour pay incentive until 12/7/24.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION



  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team.
  • Assist with the teaching of newly hired technologists and student technologists; Serve as a role model to new employees and other staff members.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, staff members, and physicians; Adherence to standards including but not limited to the unit and hospital policies and procedures, regulatory standards, and patient safety goals.
  • Competent at the unit level.
  • Demonstrate appropriate and correct case preparation.
  • Establish and maintain sterile field and assure team maintains sterile environment independently; Apply basic knowledge of instrumentations to several cases. Apply basic knowledge of instrumentations to several cases; Corrects deficiencies at the case level.
  • Perform technical duties involving care, preparation, and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment in the operating rooms to provide a safe and effective environment.
  • Completes unit/department-specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


One (1) year of experience as a surgical technologist. Completion of an accredited surgical tech program, the MU Health Care Surgical Tech program, or military training may be substituted.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), (OR) Certified Operating Room Surgical Technician (CORST) certification by the National Health Career Association (NHA), or Technician in Surgery - Certified (TS-C) certification by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
  • Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS


The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs.


This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts, as well as holidays and work during inclement weather, will be required.
