VCU Health at The Fredericksburg Adult Multispecialty Clinic is a dynamic multispecialty clinic primarily focused on surgical services. We provide care to individuals in Fredericksburg and the surrounding areas including Northern Virginia and the Northern Neck. Providers treat adult patients in the areas of cardiac surgery, colon and rectal surgery, advanced heart failure, adult congenital heart disease, cardio-oncology, hepatology with a focus on treatment of hepatitis, ostomy care, urology, liver and kidney transplant, and transplant surgery. In addition, we perform walk-in lab services for adult VCU patients. The engaging clinical team consists of various skill sets and scopes of practice to enhance patient outcomes and experiences, including RNs, LPNs, CMAs. We are open Monday through Friday from 8 - 4:30 PM. Staff work 5 - 8-hour shifts per week. We are a growing clinic that is adding more providers in our current specialties with the potential of adding more specialties.

The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as, the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, The National Association of Healthcare Professions, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:
Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as, the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, The National Association of Healthcare Professions, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association.

AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent

Experience REQUIRED:
One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if individual is not a graduate of a medical assistant program
No work experience if individual is a graduate of a medical assistant program
Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications, including Microsoft, e-mail, etc.
Demonstrated experience utilizing strong organizational, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills

Experience PREFERRED:
Two (2) to three (3) years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant
Previous experience in an academic health care environment

Education/training REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or equivalent

Education/training PREFERRED:
Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program from an accredited program of study such as the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).

Independent action(s) required:
Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure.
Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor: time/schedule changes; legal issues; directed care which deviates from standard; and identify educational resources to meet developmental needs.
Job duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.

Additional position requirements:
Certified Medical Assistants work all three shifts, weekends and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager.
Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet clinic requirements and/or as needed.

Phlebotomy experience required
