SUMMARY:The Senior Business Systems Analyst (BSA) reports to the Manager or Director in the Data Analytics and Insights department depending on assigned departmental duties/responsibilities. The Sr BSA serves as the data expert integral to the analytics life cycle handling requirement gathering and solution development This role effectively collaborates with finance strategy clinical and administrative operators information services and data engineers to design and build analytics solutions. Additionally the Sr BSA supports assigned areas by analyzing data designing visualizations that highlight key insights and summarizing those insights for the target audience. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics/Statistics Computer Science Public Health Health/Human Services Administration Business Administration or a related field required. 5+ years in healthcare data analytics or data management strongly preferred. Experience in group facilitation project management and providing training and instruction to users at all levels required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Strong leadership and negotiation skills Excellent communication skills both presentation and written Proficiency in process evaluation and improvement methods including process mapping value-stream mapping root cause analysis and failure modes and effects analysis 3+ years of qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis Proficiency in developing reports or dashboards in Power BI Tableau Qlik or similar data visualization software required Proficiency in SQL preferred Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel Access PowerPoint Visio) required WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Work is performed in a typical office setting requiring extensive periods of sitting with arms extended as well as walking and standing. Hybrid remote schedule available at the discretion of the supervising manager. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Data Analysis and Interpretation: Conduct complex data analysis to identify trends patterns and insights within large healthcare datasets Utilize statistical methods and user-friendly data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI) to interpret data and present findings to stakeholders Provide analytics support and coordination of efforts to develop and maintain models that forecast healthcare trends and outcomes Lead validation and user acceptance testing of analytics solutions Strategic and Operational Planning Collaborate with healthcare administrators and clinical teams to identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics for evaluating healthcare delivery and outcomes. Assist in the development of strategic initiatives by providing data-driven insights and recommendations. Data Management and Technical Expertise: Oversee the collection cleaning and validation of healthcare data from various sources to ensure accuracy and reliability Ensure data security and compliance with healthcare regulations in all data handling processes. Troubleshoot and resolve reported issues with published solutions. Schedule and execute routine maintenance for published solutions. Develop and maintain technical documentation for each solution updating business glossaries data dictionaries and analytics catalogs as necessary. Facilitate improvement activities to automate manual processes enhance data processing data capture data flow and metadata management. Collaborate with the data engineering team to ensure efficient data transformation procedures minimizing manual processing. Stay current with emerging data analytics technologies and methodologies to continuously improve analytical capabilities. Reporting and Presentation: Design user-friendly reports and interactive dashboards using data visualization platforms (e.g. Power BI). Communicate complex data insights in a clear and actionable manner to non-technical stakeholders including executives and clinical staff. Partner with users to help them understand and use data to drive decision-making and improve efficiency and effectiveness. Summarize insights from data analysis effectively. Training and Mentorship Provide guidance and mentorship to junior data analysts and other team members. Provide end-user training support materials and consultation to ensure optimal adoption of analytics solutions across the organization. Continually expand knowledge of Brown University Health's data and analytics applications and data systems. Collaboration and Communication Manage and prioritize incoming requests and issues from business customers. Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to process requests for data or analytics solutions including gathering business requirements converting them into functional requirements and technical specifications identifying data sources and evaluating data reliability and quality. Analyze related clinical and operational workflows and map data flow across systems. Work closely with other departments including IT finance and clinical operations to align data analysis with organizational goals. Foster strong working relationships with external partners such as research institutions and vendors to support collaborative data initiatives. Perform other related duties as assigned. INDEPENDENT ACTION Incumbent generally establishes own work plans and priorities including the development and utilization of appropriate analytic strategies methodologies and activities to assure accurate valid and timely completion of work in conformance with organizational and department policies and practices.
