The Role: AMD's Packaging Engineering team is looking for an experienced IC Connector and socket Engineer who will help solve complex technical challenges to deliver robust, reliable, cost-effective next generation sockets and connector solutions for server and AI applications. The Person:

The ideal person will be able to work with cross functional teams and be a driver. Can work independently and in a team in fast paced dynamic environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead next generation high speed connector, cables, socket, development, and production release for high volume products.
  • Manage programs at multiple suppliers for ecosystem development
  • Design, develop, qualify, document & release sockets/connectors for advanced packages.
  • Solve technical issues on reliability, materials and manufacturing process.
  • Work cross-functionally across organizations to understand trade-offs, constraints for optimizing package-connector/ socket interactions for optimizing cost & performance
  • Engineering evaluation & lab data gathering on new designs, new contacts etc.
  • Test package, board design, procurement & board evaluations
  • Create, manage, release, and maintain Technical specs, BOM's and assembly instructions

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant experience in connector & socket technology. Must be able to lead the next generation connector/ socket design/development with a focus on low-cost, high-volume manufacturing.
  • Capable of managing overall connector, socket development programs, schedule management as well as conducting specific technical design, analysis and testing as an individual contributor.
  • Past experience in leading socket/connector development projects & demonstrating independence in solving design problems.
  • Expert understanding of complex mechanical tolerance stack up and ability to perform detailed tolerance (Ex: Monte Carlo) analysis.
  • Understanding of industry standards for connector & socket reliability. Past proven experience in executing high volume connector/socket qualification. Experience in failure analysis of separable interfaces and solder joints.
  • Must have hands-on experience with connectors, cables and/or socket testing.
  • Must have knowledge of contact metallurgy and metal finishes for reliable electrical contact. Past experience in resolving contact resistance failures and identifying root cause is a plus.
  • Knowledge of test package & board design for reliability assessment of connectors is required. Knowledge of test methodology for connectors.
  • Understanding socket / connector temperature rise under use conditions & experience in testing.
  • First principle and basic understanding of signal integrity, systems engineering as it relates to connectors & sockets.
  • Must have experience in working with offshore socket / connector suppliers.
  • Must be proficient in writing technical documents (component design specification and qualification plan) and developing power point presentations.
  • Good spoken and written communication skills in English is required.
  • Proficient with following software is required: AutoCAD, Solidworks, Labview, Matlab, JMP, Word, Excel & Power Point. Expert knowledge of structural FEA (finite element analysis) is a plus.

Location: Austin, TX

Education:

  • BS & MS in Mechanical/Material Science/Integrated Systems Engineering, required. Ph.D. is a plus.
