Physical Therapist Assistant - Outpatient PT

This position is 90-95% outpatient and 5-10% acute care.

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) is primarily responsible for the delivery of Physical Therapy care to the patient population to which she/he is assigned and the recording of that care in the hospital medical record. The PTA acts as a consultant to various patient populations. The PTA must work under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist according to the laws and practice regulations of the State of Virginia.

The Physical Therapist Assistant provides instruction to OT/PT support staff, PT students, personnel of other disciplines within VCUHS, and patient and/or family members. The PTA may rotate through our various clinical service areas.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
Licensed (or licensure eligible) by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist Assistant

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:
Current license by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist Assistant
Current CPR Certification if required by clinic or practice area

Experience REQUIRED:

New graduate from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant Program

Experience PREFERRED:

One (1) year of work experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant

Education/training REQUIRED:
Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant Program (Associates Degree)

Education/training PREFERRED: N/A

Independent action(s) required:
Patient implementation of plan of care, discharge planning.
Ordering equipment.
Representing department at rounds and discharge conferences.
Scheduling and charging patients.

Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable):
Employee may have supervisory responsibilities of Rehab Technicians, students, and volunteers.
Employee is a member of a self-directed team and applies his knowledge and experience in daily clinic problem solving.
The team will bring unresolved issues to departmental manager for assistance and guidance in their resolution.

Additional position requirements:
Employee is expected to share in weekend and holiday schedule expectations of the department or have a fluctuation of daily work hours from 8 AM to 7 PM based on patient population/clinic needs.
