Microbiome Scientist Co Op

Designing and conducting experiments using microbiological, molecular biology and 'omics approaches and analyzing and interpreting data to facilitate the discovery of crop protection genes. The role will include working with environmental microbial communities and isolated strains, their metabolic characterization, and genomic/metagenomic sequencing. The Co-op with have guidance from scientists from several functional teams and have opportunities for professional development. YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Provide technical contributions to the discovery of crop protection traits;
  • Apply advanced microbial ecology and microbiology tools to develop novel approaches for discovery and characterization of microbes and theiractivity;
  • Collaborate across functional teams to drive development of novel approaches;
  • Communicate research findings to peers, functional teams, and across organizations.

WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. Degree program;
  • Education and/or applied experience in at least one of the following areas: Microbiology, Microbial Ecology, Microbial Physiology, Microbiomes, Bioinformatics, or related discipline;
  • Experience in microbiological methods to study bacteria in cultures and environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in microbial isolation, culturing, and characterization
  • Experience in extracting nucleic acids from diverse environmental samples
  • Experience in sequencing library preparation and sequencing
  • Bioinformatics skills: metabolic characterization
