Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Faculty Group Practice Clinical Histo Tech I (35).

In this role, the successful candidate Position Summary:Responsible for preparing tissue specimens for pathological examination.

Job Responsibilities:

    • Performs the following routine histologic procedures: Accessioning Grossing/Wrapping of specimens Embedding procedures Section techniques involving hematoxylin and eosin.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Trains in the use of new laboratory equipment.
    • Helps maintain laboratory equipment.
    • Preparation of solutions required for any histological examination.
    • Responsible for maintaining the workflow in the Mohs Histology Laboratory. Provides technical expertise to all technical personnel in the laboratory.
    • Performs tests requiring special scientific skills, and, in the absence of a manager, is responsible for the proper performance and documentation of all procedures in the laboratory.
    • Performs laboratory procedures and examinations pursuant to established and approved protocols of the Mohs Histology Laboratory, including maintaining equipment and records, and perform quality assurance activities related to examination performance, which require the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility.     • Job Description: Laboratory outputs; investigate and resolve technical problems. Implements and insures that established procedures are followed including general laboratory protocols, safety protocols, proper use and maintenance of equipment, and proper storage of chemicals and reagents.
    • Provides expertise in procedures and protocols of specimen preparation for histological examination and perform more complicated special stains and/or immunoperoxidase techniques; Provides supervisory support to technologists, technicians and clerical personnel in instances when a manager is absent.
    • Helps train technologists, technicians and support staff in all the areas of the laboratory.
    • Implements schedules, work assignments, and workflow determined by the Laboratory Manager in their absence. Performs other related activities as directed.

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:B.A./B.S. in medical technology from an accredited institution; or B.A./B.S. in biology, chemistry or physical sciences from an accredited institution and must hold licensure as a clinical laboratory technologist granted by the New York State Education Department; ASCP-HT/HTL certification is not required but is preferred. A minimum of two years of pertinent laboratory experience and/or training in a histology laboratory as a technologist is required. Knowledge of all aspects of routine histology and/or immunoperoxidase techniques is required. Licensure as a clinical laboratory technologist by the New York State Education Department based on the Special Provisions (Grandparenting) of Part 79- 13.4 of the Regulations of the Commissioner. ASCP-HT/HTL certification is not required but is preferred. A minimum of five years of pertinent laboratory experience and/or training in a histology laboratory as a technologist is required. Knowledge of all aspects of routine histology and/or immunoperoxidase techniques is required.

Required Licenses: Certified Histotechnician, Clinical Lab Technician-NYS, Clinical Lab Technologist-NYS

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:BS/BA in Science preferred; American Society of Clinical Pathologists certification as a Histology Technician (ASCP-HT) preferred.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $81,325.15 - $109,200.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
