NYU Langone Health is seeking a dynamic, full time Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) in Surgical Critical Care/Trauma Surgery to join the faculty at our NYU Langone Hospital - Brooklyn campus. This position will expand our Emergency General Surgery/Acute Care/Trauma division which currently handles 350 Level 1 activations/year, 1000 Level 2 activations/year, 1800 trauma consults and 600 operative cases/year. Reporting to the Division Chief of Trauma, the SICU Director will oversee all operations of the 10 bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit and work alongside seven acute care surgeons. Responsibilities include oversight of operational, strategic, and administrative tasks including but not limited to quality improvement initiatives, patient education curriculum development, and enhancement of policies, procedures, and workflows to improve efficiency and outcomes on the unit.

Responsibilities:

Administrative



  • Maintain administrative oversight of the SICU in partnership with nurse manager and physician leadership to proactively monitor and improve quality and safety metrics
  • Collaborate with other departmental intensivists for integrated Critical Care activities at NYU Langone Brooklyn
  • Collaborate with Intensivists across the system to maintain standardization of policies, procedures, and workflows related to Critical Care within the NYULH system
  • Lead and participate in structured performance improvement activities including but not limited to RCAs, guideline and protocol creation, which will improve the efficiency and quality of care in the SICU and stepdown units



Clinical



  • Trauma, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care coverage (nights and weekends mandatory)
  • Supervise and provide mentorship to residents, fellows and advanced practice providers
  • Generate surgical critical care research. This includes clinical, outcomes, health services, basic science, translational, ethics, education, or palliative care

  • Board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Surgery and fellowship trained in trauma and critical care
  • Minimum of 5 years of expertise in the specific areas of trauma, surgical critical care and emergency general surgery with a particular interest in critical care.
