Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Bed Utilization Representative - Part Time, Benefits Eligible - Evening Shift - Mineola.

In this role, the successful candidate supports efficient patient flow through timely placement of patients from all portals of entry, in addition to patients transferred from both NYU Langone Health and external facilities. Collaborates with supportive service departments, to manage bed availability & optimize bed utilization. Serves as a liaison for all operational issues related to appropriate patient placement in partnership with all staff.

Job Responsibilities:

    • Assesses bed availability and assigns clean beds timely at the appropriate level of care requested to new admitted patients, outpatient extended recovery patients, upgraded/downgraded patients, inter & intra-unit patient transfers, in addition to intra facility and external patient transfers according to established protocols. Assigns each Medicine service patient to a team when bed is assigned. Communicates patient assignment to applicable Medicine team & Medicine Attending Physician.
    • Assists department manager with orientation and training of new employees. Works with leaders to identify staff training improvement opportunities.
      Keeps current with departmental communication distributions and adheres to departmental policies and procedures. Provides timely and appropriate responses to all inquiries related to patient placements.
    • Identifies workflow process improvement opportunities. Provides input regarding performance improvement action plans.
    • Exhibits excellent and professional customer service skills during all telephone and face-to-face contacts with patients, providers, leadership, and colleagues.
    • Monitors elective patient admission bed requests generated by physician/designee. Notifies physician/patients of bed availability. Coordinates daily bed management workflow in conjunction with leadership to facilitate efficient patient placements.
    • Reviews and identifies variances in EMR provider bed requests relative to appropriate patient class, level of care/accommodation code, provider name, and service.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High school or equivalent, required. Excellent communication (both oral and written), interpersonal skills required.
1-2 years customer service experience in healthcare or a related setting required.
Strong administrative and organizational skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to multitask and maintain strong attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:
Associate's Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or other health related field, preferred.
Patient placement & bed assignments in an acute care hospital preferred. Knowledge of EMR systems preferred.
Certified Healthcare Access Associate, preferred.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $20.45 - $26.45 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
