The Prescott campus is a small residential campus in the mountains of northern Arizona. Prescott is one of the highest-rated residential areas in the Southwest. It is located at over 5,000 feet elevation, has a mild climate, clean air, and is close to outdoor recreation, pristine wilderness areas and national forests.

The Opportunity:

The Department of Aeronautical Science and Flight Department at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) in Prescott, Arizona invites applications for a Visiting Ground School Faculty at the rank of Instructor of Aeronautical Science for the Fall 2023 semester. Upon completion of the fall semester faculty contract, the candidate will have an opportunity to transition to a staff position to serve as an Instructor Pilot in the ERAU Flight Department.

Faculty Duties for Fall 2023 semester:

Ground school faculty teaching assignments include airplane ground schools at the private, instrument, and commercial pilot levels in compliance with the ERAU Training Course Outlines (TCOs).

The normal teaching load corresponds to a 15 credit hour course load per semester. When not teaching class, instructors maintain regular office hours for student support and faculty collaboration in accordance with the Faculty Handbook. The instructors will actively plan, design, and implement techniques and materials for course improvement and student support. Candidates must demonstrate a love for teaching and learning in order to inspire students to be lifelong learners.

IP Duties for Spring 2024 onwards:

Certificated Flight Instructors perform the duties in accordance with the approved TCOs (Private, Instrument, Commercial single and/or multi add-on) to ensure that course standards, training requirements, and objectives are met by all assigned students. Issue endorsements and recommend students for checkrides. Regularly schedule each assigned student to ensure satisfactory progress through the course. Perform duties of PIC while practicing all aspects of ERAU's Aviation Safety Program. Recommend curriculum and courseware improvements when appropriate and develop new curriculum or courseware as assigned. Attend administrative, standardization, in-service training, and instructor development meetings as assigned. Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • The selected candidate must have at least a Bachelor's Degree, preferably in an aviation-related field.
  • Candidates must possess a current FAA Flight Instructor certificate (CFI) and minimum FAA Second Class Medical. Preferred candidates should have a FAA Flight Instructor certificate with Instrument (CFI/I), multi-engine rating or multi-engine instructor (MEI) rating.
  • Candidates must be proficient with aircraft piloting skills including familiarity with and the ability to perform required flight maneuvers and procedures at the commercial pilot level. Knowledge of and ability to apply effective instructional knowledge and technique in the classroom and in the airplane. Knowledge of appropriate Federal Aviation Regulations and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Academic, administrative, operational procedures and requirements. Ability to work well under pressure in fast-paced and noisy environment while exercising sound judgment at all times.
