Job Description

The Opportunity:

The Counseling center at the Prescott Campus of Embry Riddle- Aeronautical University is searching for a Mental Health Counselor (I or II depending on licensure) for a full-time, 10 month position. Position is 10 month/40 hours per week (August - May).

Primary responsibilities:

  • Provide individual, couples, and group counseling
  • Crisis intervention (an essential job duty for this position). Must be able to conduct appropriate assessments, provide feedback on these assessments, and give appropriate referrals for students who have needs exceeding the scope of work provided by Counseling Services.
  • Consult with Wellness Center providers regarding student needs.
  • Provide consultation services to concerned faculty, students, and staff.
  • This position may see students mandated to attend counseling by the University.
  • Work collaboratively with the Counseling Center
  • Keep current in counseling practices by attending professional conferences and training sessions, required for licensing.
  • May require public presentations to various groups on campus by providing wellness education and outreach to students and staff in conjunction with Human Resources.
  • Some after-hours availability based on need.
  • Responsible for maintaining one's own up to date and active Liability Insurance is required.
  • In the Mental Health Counselor II position you will be required to sit in as acting Director of Counseling Services in their absence, or as needed by request of the acting Director.
  • Other duties as assigned

This is a team environment and flexibility is required.

Qualifications

Mental Health Counselor I

Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Counseling, Counseling Psychology, or related field. LAC- Licensed Associate Counselor in Arizona. Experience in assessment, diagnosis, and implementation of interventions for depression, anxiety, alcohol/drug use/abuse, and developmental concerns frequently faced by college students is required. Must understand DSM-5, have familiarity with frequently used assessment tools such as the BDI, BAI, DES-11, AUDIT and /ADHD Amen checklist. Must have knowledge on creating and/or modifying PowerPoints in order to give presentation to campus community.

Prefer minimum 2 years working experience in a university counseling center, but not necessary. Experience working with many different facets of a college campus community. Experience providing services to a diverse population of students. Some experience with college counseling programming, preferable, but not necessary. Experience with working with adults in an outpatient setting.

All activities of the Mental Health Counselor will be overseen by the Counseling Director. Must be able to handle increased stress levels and multi task. Must be computer literate and able to work independently. Must be willing to learn and work well under direction of others.

Mental Health Counselor II

Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Counseling, Counseling Psychology, or related field. LPC Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Arizona is required for the Counselor II position. Candidate will need to be independently licensed, and not need clinical supervision hours. Completed training to provide clinical supervision and being. Registered on the AZBBHE site as a clinical supervisor is a plus. Must be willing to interact and provide professional insights to counseling staff, specifically those with junior licenses (LAC's)
