Job Posting Title - Assistant Professor of Space Operations Brief Description - The Department of Applied Aviation Sciences invites candidates to apply for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position to teach introductory and higher-level undergraduate space policy, law, and regulation courses in our B.S. Space Operations degree program, and to pursue research activities related to the legal and policy aspects of air and space technologies. We also anticipate teaching opportunities in the M.S. Space Operations program housed in the School of Graduate Studies. Detailed Description - The Applied Aviation Sciences Department offers four bachelor's degree programs, each unique: Aerospace and Occupational Safety, Air Traffic Management, Meteorology, and Space Operations. While each program is different from the others, all are excellent choices for students who want challenging and rewarding careers. The Bachelor of Science degree in Space Operations (BSSO) is a unique program focused on the operations, policy, business, safety, training, human factors, and mission planning elements of space operations. In addition, ERAU Daytona Beach offers an M.S. in Space Operations. The position includes a mix of teaching, research, and service obligations. Basic teaching requirements are nine credit hours (three courses) per semester with the opportunity to replace some teaching with equivalent funded research. The candidate is expected to develop new course materials related to space policy, law, and regulation as well as teach previously developed courses. These courses provide students critical insight to the regulatory requirements governing space flight, which gives our students a unique advantage in the space industry. Service duties include student mentoring, curriculum evaluation, committee participation, and project leadership. Research responsibilities include the development of a research agenda focused on the application of law and policy to air and space technologies. This includes participation in individual and/or group research projects involving students. This is a nine-month position, renewed annually. QualificationsJob Requirements - J.D. with background in space law/policy (required). Experience working in the space industry (highly desired). Research experience in the application of space law and policy to government and/or commercial space operations (highly desired). Previous experience in higher education (desired). The position and contract are expected to begin in August 2025.
