JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The College of Nursing at Penn State University is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to serve as a Research Coordinator for a cutting-edge project funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). This project, "Center for Immersive Learning and Digital Innovation: A Patient Safety Learning Lab," aims to advance patient safety through design, systems engineering, and health services research. The research focuses on developing and evaluating innovative solutions such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and robotic systems to reduce central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) and improve patient outcomes.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual with excellent organizational and communication skills, capable of working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Administrative and Operational Support:
    • Manage day-to-day project activities, ensuring the smooth execution of study protocols.
    • Coordinate and schedule project meetings, ensuring effective communication among team members.
    • Assist with the recruitment, consent, and enrollment of study participants.
    • Maintain and manage project documentation, including consent forms, study protocols, and regulatory documents.
    • Oversee data collection, entry, and management to ensure accuracy and compliance with study protocols.
    • Assist in the preparation of progress reports and other project-related documentation.
    • Coordinate with external partners and stakeholders as needed.
    • Ensure compliance with institutional and federal regulations.
  • Project Management:
    • Work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) and multiple research team members.
    • Assist in writing procedure manuals and training materials.
    • Supervise and train research assistants on study protocols and recruitment strategies.
    • Draft interim reports on study progress, recruitment, and safety.
    • Prepare presentations for the Data Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB).
    • Maintain Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols and manage study databases.
    • Manage administrative tasks such as budgeting and scheduling.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • The ability to learn new research methodologies quickly and take on new challenges with enthusiasm.
  • Experience in research settings, particularly with clinical research and human subjects' protocols.
  • A Master's degree or higher, plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Nursing or healthcare experience, particularly in acute inpatient care or with older adults, is preferred.
  • Proficiency in using computer databases and familiarity with research software tools.

Position Details:

This is a limited-term appointment funded for two years from the date of hire, with an excellent possibility of re-funding based on project progress and funding availability. The position offers flexibility for a hybrid work arrangement, combining remote work with on-site responsibilities at Penn State University Park and other Penn State Health locations, and Johns Hopkins University.
