Opportunity Summary
The CFO plays a crucial role in managing a comprehensive range of Uniland's accounting and finance functions. This position drives financial growth strategies, capital procurement, and ensures financial stability and compliance within the commercial and residential real estate sectors. Additionally, this position will manage the ecosystem of the company's real estate financing process including client relationship management, lender placement execution, loan, and equity term negotiation, and closing, to secure the best economics for the company.
This position understands current accounting practices and trends, has experience raising capital, and adapting to change. As a member of senior management, the CFO will be comfortable in a leadership role that requires clear and effective communication skills.
Job Responsibilities
Accounting
  • Develops and executes the company's financial planning, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Oversees all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and compliance.
  • Directs internal and external stakeholders in the accurate preparation of all financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, shareholder reports, tax returns, and governmental agency reports.
  • Drives long-term financial sustainability and growth.
  • Assesses and manages the organization's liabilities and investments. Mitigates financial risks by implementing effective risk management practices.
  • Analyses financial data and market trends to provide strategic insights and recommendations to the senior leadership.
  • Contributes to the overall strategic direction and decision-making of the company, ensuring that financial considerations are integral to business planning.
  • Monitors and manages cash flow, liquidity, and financial risks to optimize financial performance and mitigate risks.

  • Ensures compliance with legal requirements, company policies, financial regulations, accounting standards, tax requirements, and internal controls.
Finance
  • Oversees the company's capital markets main priorities including financing properties and raising capital.
  • Models and assesses the appropriateness of long-term capital structures including fundraising, capital calls, debt financing, investor relations, and financial structuring for development projects.
  • Devises and evaluates investment strategies, considering cash flow, liquidity risks, and market conditions, and make informed decisions.
  • Structures, negotiates, and executes the complete lifecycle of various types of asset financing transactions.
  • Manages the portfolio of mortgages (i.e., interest rate adjustments, swap agreements, extensions, guarantee releases, prepayment penalties).
  • Manages lender relationships and oversee the execution of financing agreements to support project goals.
  • Collaborates with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to support project financing, acquisitions, and strategic initiatives.
Real Estate Tax
  • Oversees the management and administration of all policies, procedures, and handling of items related to real estate taxes with internal and external stakeholders including, but not limited to, grievances, abatements, reductions, PILOT and similar programs.
Job Requirements
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in either Accounting, Real Estate, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required; MBA preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant designation preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in finance and accounting roles, with significant experience in real estate development and finance.
  • Experience in financial planning and analysis, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Knowledge of real estate transactions, such as acquisitions, dispositions, and joint ventures. Experience in assessing and managing financial risks within the real estate industry.
  • Proficiency in financial software and tools, financial modelling software, and MS Office suite required. Yardi and Argus experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with risk management tools and practices specific to real estate development projects.
  • Experience in leading and mentoring finance teams, fostering a culture of performance and professional growth.
  • Experience ensuring adherence to accounting standards, tax regulations, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated expertise in capital markets, including fundraising, debt financing, investor relations, and financial structuring.
  • Familiarity with emerging trends and technologies in real estate finance.
  • Proven track record of strategic financial management, financial analysis, and risk management in the real estate industry.
  • Salary Range: $173,000 - $220,000
