Overview

The Data Scientist will design and oversee research projects and develop statistical models and/or analytical tools and processes aimed at improving health outcomes, quality of care, access to care, engagement, and affordability of care for IHA members. They will be expected to work closely with various business units and lead projects and the teams related to provider profiling, network evaluation, clinical program evaluation, population risk stratification, utilization patterns, and other research topics as they relate to our strategic initiatives.

In addition, they will also be expected to keep up with latest research methods and data science tools and capabilities and apply new techniques as appropriate. Substantial scientific innovation will be required to expand and evaluate the above-mentioned activities.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a quantitative/research discipline such as epidemiology, statistics, econometrics, behavior economics, data sciences, or other related discipline required. PhD preferred.
  • Seven (7) years of research experience to include experience in a managed health care environment required.
  • Research publications and/or presentations preferred.
  • Considerable experience in the application of modern statistical design and research techniques to health-related data.
  • Expert knowledge of behavioral economics concepts and technics to build incentive models.
  • In depth knowledge of machine learning algorithms.
  • Considerable experience in developing, training, tuning, and evaluating machine learning models.
  • Expert knowledge of software for statistical analysis and data mining: SQL, SAS, R, Python, etc.
  • Expert knowledge of Independent Health Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), Health Rules, and Power data and structures preferred.
  • Understand the value of integrating multiple data sources: understand different types of data, such as clinical, administrative and personalization and can draw associations with this data.
  • Expert knowledge of healthcare concepts and methods.
  • Ability to lead and work with minimal supervision on major projects and oversee the work of junior analysts.
  • Ability to present and communicate output and analysis in a meaningful way, "tell the story".
  • Proven examples of displaying the IH values: Passionate, Caring, Respectful, Trustworthy, Collaborative and Accountable.
Essential Accountabilities
  • Lead all phases of analytical projects which may include reviewing publications, developing methodology, developing and deploying machine learning models, performing analysis, summarizing outcomes, leading meetings with the business to reviewing requirements and/or outcomes/results of analysis.
  • Perform outcome evaluation of business initiatives around, but not limited to: cost and utilization, population assessments, care management programs such as Disease Management, Case Management, Utilization Management, etc., member-centric engagement analytics, and econometrics studies.
  • Mentor junior analysts by reviewing their methodology, offering reading material and learning labs.
  • Actively participate in methods review meetings.
  • QA your work and the work of others when assigned.
  • Assign tasks, perform QA, coach and mentor analysts, and assist in decision making processes when Team Lead is not available.

Hiring Compensation Range: $95,000 - $110,000 annually

Compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to skills, education, location and experience.

In addition to base compensation, associates may be eligible for a scorecard incentive, full range of benefits and generous paid time off. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
