United States, California, South San Francisco
Sep 29, 2024
The Position

We advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love.

The Translational Medicine department at Genentechis seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist to help drive our Clinical Cytometry Strategy in one or more therapeutic areas including autoimmunity, cancer immunotherapy, and hematological oncology. Our departmentprovides translational science expertise to inform the clinical development of novel personalized medicines, andour biomarker teams investigate the molecular pathways of disease to establish the mechanism of action of our therapeutics. The successful candidate will work with our biomarker teams to support the development, clinical trial implementation, and analysis of single-cell assays. This work will advance understanding ofdisease heterogeneity, and generate insights that advance personalized healthcare byidentifying "the right drug for the right patient at the right dose." The candidate will work closely with other functions within Translational Medicine and other units in the Genentech/Roche organization.

The Opportunity:

  • Provide leadership in the clinical implementation of single-cell technologies including spectral flow cytometry and molecular/ multi-omic cytometry methods (CITE-seq).

  • Support biomarker strategies via oversight of single-cell assay development, outsourcing, and the development of data analysis pipelines to achieve rapid insight generation and impact clinical decision making.

  • Success in these responsibilities requires a thorough understanding of disease and drug target biology, creativity and attention to detail, and experience in integrating biomarkers into clinical trials.

  • Experience in hi-complexity cytometry, single-cell sequencing (scRNAseq), and CITE-seq will be given preference.

  • Hands on experience with cytometry (CyTEK Aurora, BD Lyric) and scRNAseq (10X chromium, BD Rhapsody)instrumentation is essential as well as the ability to independently analyze the complex multi-modal data sets derived from these platforms.

  • Experience in applying multi-modal single-cell analysis to the fields of immunology, autoimmunity, cell therapy, or cancer immunotherapy research will be given preference.

  • Work with interdisciplinary teams including discovery research, biomarker, clinical, biostatistics, and bioinformatics scientists, and will carry out data analysis and integration across various domains.

  • Regular publication of scientific or methodological papers is an important component of this position and success in this role critically depends on an ability to effectively present complex techniques and results in a clear and concise manner to a diverse audience of scientists.

Who You Are:

  • You have graduate training (Doctorate) in Biotechnology, Immunology, Oncology, Bioinformatics or similar field.

  • You have a strong scientific publication record in the field of single-cell analysis.

  • You have experience developing flow cytometry, scRNAseq and other multi-modal cytometry assays.

  • You have competence in computational languages such as R or Python in the context of single-cell omic analysis.

  • You have experience in managing lab-based employees.

  • You are intensely curious about the biology of disease and eager to contribute to scientific efforts focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying disease etiology.

  • You are able to present complex results, both verbally and in writing, to cross-functional biomarker teams.
