Maintenance Supervisor

Description/Job Summary:

The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a full-time On-Site Supervisor for a facility to support a federal Agency. You will be responsible for hiring and training staff and ensuring the smooth running of upkeep or repair operations. An excellent maintenance supervisor must be reliable and have a great eye for detail. They must have technical skills and knowledge of various crafts such as carpentry, plumbing, heating and AC, etc. Leadership and knowledge of administrative tasks such as scheduling are also essential. The goal is to ensure that facilities are always in good and safe working conditions.

Responsibilities/Duties:



  • On-site supervisor shall be journeyman-level personnel deemed as a working supervisor on shifts not worked by the Project Manager. The Shift Supervisor shall be responsible for making all critical decisions for contract operations in the absence of the Project Manager.
  • Regularly inspect facilities to determine problems and necessary maintenance
  • Prepare weekly maintenance schedules and allocate work
  • Supervise and train maintenance technicians
  • Hire and supervise tradesmen during installations, repairs or maintenance (electricians, plumbers, etc.)
  • Inspect and maintain building systems such as heating/AC, ventilation, plumbing, etc.
  • Inspect and maintain internal items systems such as appliances, fixtures, drywall/painting, etc.
  • Contribute to the development of the maintenance budget and ensure compliance
  • Monitor inventory of materials and equipment
  • Participate in the coordination of projects (e.g. renovations)
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and health and safety regulations (OSHA)


Required Skills:



  • An eye for detail, a passion for a job well done, and a sense of urgency for repairs
  • Technical skills and knowledge of various crafts such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, appliance repair, heating and AC, etc.
  • Knowledge of health & safety practices and regulations
  • Experience with contract negotiations and vendor oversight
  • Excellent planning and leadership abilities
  • Computer savvy
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including after hours and on-call
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Candidates must have dependable transportation (e.g. a truck or van capable of carrying tools and parts) to ensure an efficient use of time providing proper building maintenance.


Preferred Skills:



  • Good administrative skills, communication and ability to prioritize work orders.
  • Degree from a vocational school will be a plus


Required Experience:



  • 3-5 years of proven experience as a maintenance supervisor or similar role
  • Strong technical knowledge of all building systems (electrical, heating, plumbing, etc.)


Preferred Experience:



  • Five (5) years of management experience serving in roles of facilities maintenance support and CMMS operations. EPA Certified, HVAC, electrical and plumbing knowledge
