Overview
The Lead Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting department management in coordination of patient care and clinic operations to include, but not limited to; being the primary Super User directly responsible for assisting providers and clinic staff with immediate EHR concerns, assist providers and clinic staff with outstanding tasks for patient centered quality care, and is a line of contact between clinic staff and department management in giving detailed clinical operations reports regarding clinic staff and provider's concerns to implement quality improvement measures. This position is responsible for supporting all four divisions at the OBGYN SPAH office location, which include Maternal Fetal Medicine, Urogynecology, Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery and Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Responsibilities

Lead M.A. also functions as an M.A. with the below listed responsibilities: Medical Assistant Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Explain treatments and procedures to patients
- Prepares patients for examination
- Assists the physician during examination
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimen
- Dispose of containment supplies and sterilize medical instruments
- Instruct patients about medication and special diets
- Prepares and administers medications as directed by a physician
- Reconciles allergy lists, medication lists, and smoking status of patient.
- Chaperones when appropriate and assists during colposcopies, hysteroscopies, and other minor procedures
- Maintains clean, well-equipped examination rooms and cleans and sterilizes instruments
- Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments
- Assists with scheduling of tests and ultrasound
- Stocks examination rooms, triage area, and work station with medical supplies for designated team
- Opens all charts and prepares charts for day of clinic
- Receives and completes assigned tasks from providers
- Performs phone triage with supervision of LPN/RN, completes team tasks, paperwork and faxes as needed.
- Scan upcoming appointments for additional medical record information necessary. Obtain medical records from other physician offices, hospitals, labs, emergency rooms, and radiology prior to patient visit.
- Participate in all staff meetings, education lectures and quality improvement activities.
- Follow EVMS protocols related to infection control, environmental safety and patient confidentiality. Complete annual recertification for Blood Borne Pathogens, HIPAA Compliance Training, Respiratory FIT and IT Policy. Maintain current CPR certification and any updates relating to M.A. Certification.

Qualifications
Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program (or equivalent military training) and certification (CMA or RMA) is required. Completion of BLS class and re-certify every 2 years.
- -Successful completion of a Medical assistant program.
- -Must be an experienced M.A. with prior experience in a high-volume clinical practice.
- -Ability to balance multiple priorities and tasks.
- -Ability to make professional nursing decisions under the supervision of the physicians and licensed nurses.
- -Possess professional interaction skills with physicians, outside offices, pharmacies, referring agencies, hospital personnel and support staff.
- -Supervisory experience preferred.
