Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist II - Cytogenetics for the department of Pathology within the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. The Research Teaching Specialist II - Cytogenetics role is to conduct specialized clinical cytogenetic testing, including but not limited to chromosome karyotyping and Fluorescence in Situ Hybridization (
FISH).
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Assist the laboratory with maintaining laboratory, accessioning and technical responsibilities.
- Carry out various technical and clinical operations relating to the activities of the laboratory.
- Assist in the establishment of performance standards, proficiency testing, quality control and procedures associated to the maintenance of the clinical laboratory licenses.
- Perform various assays independently with responsibilities for accurate methodology and proper instrumentation usage.
- Assist with the instructing and training of students in various techniques and procedures specifically related to Clinical Testing protocols.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant Science plus ten (10) year of human chromosome karyotyping experience and familiar with tumor karyotypes.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- The individual must be reliable, and dedicated to performing at their best to maintain excellent patient care.
- Good communication skills.
- Capable of working independently within laboratory standards.
- Must be able to differentiate colors.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Previous experience working in a Clinical Cytogenetic lab.
- Familiarity with CytoVision is preferred but not required.
ASCP certified preferred but not required.

- Exposure to harmful chemicals.
- Exposure to human blood, bone marrow, body fluids, or tissues.
- Work in dark rooms as well as standing for long periods of time doing bench top work.
