The National Office Leader, Partner, is a critical, impactful member of the Assurance executive team, reporting to the Assurance Leader and the Risk Oversight Committee of the RSM Board of Directors. The National Office Leader is responsible for leading the firm's National Professional Standards Group (NPSG), consisting of the Office of the Chief Auditor and the Professional Practice Office (PPO). NPSG brings together experts to help the firm's partners and staff translate from the technical to the practical in order to deliver first in class audit quality. NPSG is a strategic asset that is industry aligned, responsive, transparent and at the forefront of emerging issues, ensuring our partners, staff and clients can quickly address complex matters. We are seeking a seasoned and visionary leader who will play a pivotal role in leading the firm's Assurance practice through an ever-evolving business and technological landscape and committing the practice to a robust system of quality control. The National Office Leader will work closely with Assurance leadership, the National Office of Risk Management's (NORM) Audit Quality and Risk Management group (AQRM), and RSM's executive leadership team, including the Board of Directors, CEO, Chief Risk Officer and Board of Directors.

Overviewof the position:

  • Audit Quality: Leader and owner of the firm's system of quality management, ensuring adherence to internal standards and regulatory requirements for both private and public audits. Manage the development and implementation of the firm's audit quality improvement strategy. Cultivate a culture within the firm with a relentless commitment to audit quality.

  • Regulatory Relations and Remediation: Manage relationships with the PCAOB and SEC in collaboration with AQRM. Develop, track and monitor regulatory responses and remediation plans in response to PCAOB findings. Lead the implementation of remediation actions to improve the firm's system of audit quality management.

  • Assurance and Accounting Policy: Develop, implement and maintain policies that ensure the highest level of assurance and compliance with current accounting standards.

  • Methodology Development: Oversee the development and refinement of assurance methodologies to maintain relevance and effectiveness.

  • Training and Awareness: Responsible for the development and implementation of training programs to effectively communicate the methodology, standards and internal and regulatory inspection findings.

  • Professional Practice Consultations: Oversees the delivery of expert guidance on complex assurance and accounting issues, ensuring that teams across the practice receive the necessary support to navigate challenging engagements and uphold the highest standards of audit quality.

  • Assurance Innovation & Technology: Drive innovation across assurance technology and methodologies to enhance audit quality, service delivery and client satisfaction.

  • Leadership and Team Development: Foster a culture of excellence and continuous learning within the team. Mentor and develop staff at all levels, ensuring a pipeline of future leaders. Participate in 'tone at the top' initiatives to enhance the firm's culture of audit quality.

Experience required:

  • Minimum of 20 years of experience in a senior role within an assurance practice and/or the PCAOB/SEC.

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Advanced degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field

  • Certified Public Accountant (required)

  • Expert knowledge of and compliance with GAAP/GAAS/PCAOB standards and SEC regulations

  • Demonstrated experience leading audit quality programs and managing complex regulatory remediations.

  • Track record of effectively and substantively interacting with regulators and leading the development and implementation of regulatory remediation actions in response to PCAOB/SEC findings.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, couple with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven leadership skills with a track record of managing high-performing teams and developing assurance professionals; Ability to communicate motivationally and deliver tough messages; Takes ownership of results.

  • Demonstrates critical thinking and applies appropriate professional integrity, objectivity and skepticism.

  • Displays executive presence in interactions with others (e.g. calming influence, confidence).

  • Viewed as expert in the firm and sought out by others regionally and nationally with respect to deep functional and technical expertise.
