Overview
The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Second Lieutenant for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). Reporting to the Campus Safety Administrator, provides operational supervision and support to subordinates for security operations.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Acts as a liaison between RUPD duty supervisor and the security division, ensuring proper support.
  • Provides information to division commander regarding activities.
  • Reviews all daily reports and highlights any concerns to address with division commander.
  • Assigns scheduling and assignments to subordinates to ensure operational needs.
  • Responsible for training of new officers, as well as addressing performance issues as needed.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with a mandatory two years of security or military related service.
Certifications/Licenses

  • Must have a valid driver's license and will be required to successfully complete the Rutgers Defensive Driving course.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills and computer literacy with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in basic first aid, CPR and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is preferred.

  • CUPSA training preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Equipment Utilized
  • Word / Excel / T-2 Flex System / IPAD-Devices.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • This position will require the incumbent to work occasional evenings and/or overtime.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
