Our Discovery Solutions practice is seeking an experienced attorney with 7 years of post JD experience to join our Palo Alto office. This role effectively leads Wilmer Hale Discovery Solutions (WHDS) team members to streamline the engagement experience for legal teams. Attorneys, Data Analytics and Investigations, as part of the WHDS service offering, will collaborate with internal teams throughout the discovery process to align matter strategy with smarter discovery by serving as an eDiscovery subject matter expert for the legal team and client. They will advocate for best practices based on the latest advances in eDiscovery technology and methodology aimed at risk mitigation and proportionality.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of discovery case law, applicable legal standards, judicial preferences, and emerging trends impacting all phases of discovery and data management.
  • Effectively collaborates with case teams on ESI protocols, and participate in negotiations with requesting parties, including strategies, defensibility, risks, advantages, and challenges of leveraging advanced technologies.
  • Effectively designs and implements complex discovery and data management workflows and quality control procedures, including technology-assisted review, aiming to balance the objectives of proportionality and defensibility.
  • Demonstrates strong expertise in application of technologies and processes as they relate to all phases of discovery and data management.
  • Demonstrates awareness and understanding of data security standards and procedures, and their eDiscovery implications.
  • Plays a lead role in applying the firm's matter management principles, and assists with driving compliance with client OCGs.
  • Demonstrates effective practical application of regulations governing cross-border discovery to ensure proper identification and handling of protected data.
  • Participates in special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Contributes to the firm's Service Excellence initiative to consistently improve its image internally and externally. Displays professionalism, quality service and a "can do" attitude to internal members/departments of the firm as well as external clients and vendors via electronic and print correspondence, over the telephone and in-person.
Job Requirements:

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to perform all of the duties set forth above.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively under pressure and with people at all levels, both inside and outside WCPHD.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, demonstrating superior attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use advanced functionalities of PC-based and on-line technologies relevant to the job, including leading electronic document review and retrieval applications. Familiarity with legal research sources such as Westlaw, Lexis, and Full Authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and train others effectively.
  • Flexibility to work extended and often unpredictable hours, including the weekends and holidays.
  • Flexibility to travel, including spending extended periods in other cities.

Education:

  • J.D. or equivalent from an ABA-accredited institution and membership in good standing of the bar of jurisdiction in the primary office location of the applicant.

Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years' experience preferred working on all phases of eDiscovery, including major supervisory roles on complex matters overseeing the implementation of eDiscovery processes, policies, and procedures.

Pay Range:

  • $177,700 - $220,000
