The Waksman Institute at Rutgers University seeks to fill a position as Research Associate. The Waksman Institute is home to over 15 faculty members who use a broad range of approaches and experimental systems in numerous well-funded research programs. The Institute is part of a vibrant and interactive life sciences community that includes the School of Arts and Sciences Division of Life Sciences, the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine, the Cancer Institute of New Jersey, the Human Genetics Institute of New Jersey, and the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. |

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
Requires a PhD in structural biology or an allied field and at least four years relevant postdoctoral experience. |

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
Requires in-depth understanding and hands-on experience in preparation, functional characterization, crystallization, synchrotron x-ray data collection, SIR, MIR, MAD, and MR x-ray structure determination, structure refinement, and structure analysis of recombinant proteins, nucelic acids, and complexes thereof. Requires in-depth understanding and interest in obtaining hands-on experience in cryo-EM grid preparation, cryo-EM data collection, cryo-EM, structure determination, structure refinement, and structure analysis of recombinant proteins, nucleic acids, and complexes thereof. Requires in-depth understanding and hands-on experience in molecular cloning, sequencing, and site-directed mutagenesis. Experience in structural and functional analysis of RNA polymerase and RNA polymerase complexes preferred. Experience in chromatography (including FPLC and preferably including HPLC) and electrophoresis required. Experience in work with chemical hazards, cryological hazards, and radiological hazards required. Experience in work with biological hazards (biosafety levels 1 and 2) preferred. Effective spoken and written English required. High level of computer literacy required. |
