Posting Summary
Rutgers School of Health Professions ( SHP) is seeking a Program Assistant for the department of Clinical and Preventive Nutritional Sciences.The RBHS Food Pantry Program Assistant is responsible for supporting the operations and coordination of the food pantry. Working under the supervision of the Administrative Manager, the Program Assistant will perform a variety of tasks including organizing food inventory, assisting in food distribution, coordinating volunteer schedules, and maintaining documentation and statistical records.

Among the key duties of this position include the following:

  • Oversees and participates in weekly food pantry operations including, but not limited to, food ordering, accepting food delivery, organizing pantry items, managing inventory, opening pantry for designated hours, assisting pantry customers, ensuring confidentiality of all using food pantry.
  • Serves as an agency representative, maintaining compliance and reporting as required by Community Food Bank of New Jersey and other partners.
  • Supports community health events.
  • Oversees all volunteers including recruitment, training, scheduling, and supervising.
  • Supports data collection as required by University, researchers, and funders.
  • Identifies and pursues funding opportunities for food pantry and other community activities (such as health fairs) including researching aligned funders, writing grant applications, and maintaining grant reporting compliance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Understands and adheres to Rutgers' compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.

Work Arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree plus one (1) year experience required.
  • Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the educational requirement.

Certifications/Licenses

  • Must obtain Food Handler Certification within thirty (30) days.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and access to properly registered vehicle.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have a strong commitment to community service as well as interpersonal, organizational, writing, data collection, and reporting skills.
  • Excellent computer and Microsoft Office skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
  • Experience with SNAP a plus.
  • Master's Degree preferred.

Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Ability to lift and move containers weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Hybrid work schedule (if applicable) required to be on site for all pantry operational hours.

Special Conditions

  • Required to be on-site Mondays from approximately 11am-2pm and Tuesdays from 10am-4pm.
