Pay Rate:

The annual base salary range for this position $85k to $105K. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Who You'll Report To:

This position will report directly to the Principal Engineer on the Professional Services team.

About the Role:

This position falls under the umbrella of Sawdey's Managed Services Division (MSD). Sawdey MSD is a full-service Managed Service Provider (MSP)/Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) providing IT and/or cybersecurity services to a variety of different clients (defense/government contractors, municipalities, non-profits, commercial organizations, etc.).

The Technical Project Engineer is responsible for assisting with the planning, execution, and implementation of client projects. They will have a primary responsibility for project implementation, maintaining the design and integrity of client IT systems, and long-term client support. They may also be assigned as an environment SME for specific Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) or other regulatory-bound clients.

This position requires someone with Tier 2 knowledge and capabilities. This also includes CMMC technical design and implementation abilities. Please note, while CMMC technical design and implementation is applicable to many of our clients, candidates are not required to be CMMC experts upon joining Sawdey and can be trained accordingly as necessary.

Additional Responsibilities Include, but are not Limited To:



  • Responsible for supporting MSD work/contracts inclusive of CMMC technical design and implementation, risk analysis, asset management, helpdesk support, network design, and overall client management.
  • Work directly with client POCs and client Senior Management on project planning, execution, and implementation.
  • Perform installation and configuration of technical solutions.
  • Review Statement of Works (SOWs) to ensure project quality and completeness.
  • Deliver weekly project updates to management.
  • Support Sawdey's internal CMMC compliance effort to include all aspects of the technical design and implementation required to achieve CMMC Level 2.
  • Perform the installation, maintenance, and general support of client IT systems.
  • Assist end-users with questions and problems by working tickets submitted to the service desk via the ticketing system (ex. ConnectWise Manage system).
  • Communicate and collaborate with employees, clients, and colleagues in a professional, respectful, and timely manner.
  • May meet with current or prospective clients to assist in evaluating potential project work.
  • May support business development activities and attend conferences and webinars when required.
  • May assist in working reactive, proactive, and Install, Move, Add, and Change (IMAC) service tickets as needed.
  • Understand and adhere to Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) requirements.
  • Understand and adhere to Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) requirements.
  • May serve as a mentor to fellow Sawdey MSD team members.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.



Experience Requirements:



  • Five (5) + years of IT related experience.
  • Four (4) + years of experience working with networks, servers, and cloud-based systems.
  • Must have Tier 2 knowledge and capabilities.

Desired Experience:



  • National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Frameworks such as NIST Special Publication (SP) 800-53, 800-171, and Cybersecurity Framework (CSF)

Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an IT-related field desired.

Certificate, License, and Registration Requirements:

The following certifications are desired, but not required:



  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)
  • Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP)



Other Required Skills & Abilities:



  • Must be able to effectively communicate with customer and fulfill all duties and responsibilities as listed in the contract.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite including, but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must be able to communicate and collaborate with corporate employees, clients, and colleagues in a professional, respectful, and timely manner.
  • Must have daily and accurate time entry accounting for all service and non-service tasks.
  • Must be able to articulate technical information to non-technical people.
  • Must be self-motivated and self-directed with the ability to work with minimal direction and oversite.
  • Must be able to pay very close attention to detail.
  • Must be able to participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Must be able to use personal smartphone device on an as-needed basis to perform job-related tasks such as supporting an on-call rotation, accessing Microsoft Teams and Outlook, and enabling/signing into multi-factor authentication (MFA) applications.
  • Please Note: Incoming and Outgoing calls are made via an assigned extension in Microsoft Teams desktop. There is no requirement to use a personal smartphone device to support phone calls.



Background Check Requirements:

Must be able to pass a favorable Background Check.

US Citizenship Requirements:

To comply with CMMC requirements, as well as U.S. Government contracts, U.S. citizenship is required.
