General Summary of Position

MedStar Health is looking fora Behavioral Health Therapist tojoinour teamat MedStar Montgomery Medical Center.

As aBehavioral Health Therapist,you willbe an independently licensed professional.This therapist will be a member of a multidisciplinary teamprovidingservice under the consulting psychiatrist's direction.The primary responsibilities include ongoing psychosocial assessment and treatment of clients ages 13 and older. Clients who canbenefitfrom psychopharmacological agents are referred to a psychiatrist. With input from the team, the AMHC Therapist will develop,implement,and update an individualized plan of care. The primary treatment modalities are group (group therapy, skill building and educational groups) and individual therapy. The therapist will also hold family meetings as need arises.

Primary Duties:

  • Providesindividual, family and group psychotherapy services based on an understanding and integration of various theoretical approaches to human behavior. Participates in ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment. Supervises and monitors patient activities. Assumes case management responsibility for patients.Provides ongoing casemanagement. Makes referrals, as necessary. Facilitates hospitalization and follows patients during stay on unit. Tracks insurance authorization andassistsinutilizationreview.Maintains awareness of resources for patient support. Documents activities and care.

  • Acts as a departmental and hospital resource through informal leadership and technicalexpertise. Coaches and/or mentors' other employees. Identifies with and encourages team concepts. Servesas integral member of the interdisciplinary team, demonstratingan ability to effectively communicate and interact within the team. Participates in the orientation of new staffmembers, assistswith supervision of students and volunteers as needed. Provides AMHC with support for education activities for staff/patients. Participates in various community mental health activities. Consults, and develops partnerships with outside organizations and community professionals.

  • Maintainscurrent knowledge, certification, and licensure.Identifieslearning needs in self and initiates actions to address these education needs.Attends continuing education programs tomaintaincertification.Attends hospital sponsored training programs as required by the department. Completes all mandatory requirements, certifications, and licensure within allottedtimefor completion (CPR (Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation), License, PPD, Competencies, Age Specifics, etc.)

  • Works effectively within and between departments. Participatesininter-departmental teams and committees, communicating unit knowledge asappropriate. Provides department/unit with information and knowledgeacquiredduring participation with interdepartmental teams and committees. Demonstrates a constructive approach during all interactions with staff, supervisors, and managers both inside and outside the unit.

  • Consistently displays professionalism in interactions with patients and families,staff,and physicians. Supports unit byprovidingcoverage when there are shortages.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in social workor related Mental Health/Addictions related field to qualify forLCSW-C (Licensed Certified Social Worker Clinical)orLCPC (Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor)ormaster's degree in nursing, with Clinical Specialty in Psychiatry.

  • 3-4 years Mental health/addiction experience.

  • Maryland licensure as APRN, LCSW-C,LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker), LGPC (Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor), LCPC, RN-CSP Required or clinical psychologist Required and CPR Certification.

This position has a hiring range of $29.15 - $48.99
