As a Senior Registered Cardiovascular Technologist, you will serve as a clinical resource for invasive cardiac and vascular procedures for other staff and serve on committees as assigned.Assistsphysicians with routine and complex invasive diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac and vascular procedures, such as cardiac catheterizations, percutaneous transluminal angioplasties, structuralheart,and other interventional procedures. Performs a variety of related ancillary support activities.

Primary Duties:

  • Assists/scrubs in with physician during routine to complex invasive diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac and vascular procedures. Prepares catheters, balloons, guiding wires, etc. to physician. Prepares, cleans, and drapesappropriate sitesprior to invasive procedure, ensuring a sterile field according to Association of Operating Room Nurse (AORN) standards. Enters required patient data into the computer, connects electrocardiograph (EKG) and pulse oximeter monitors. Provides physical and psychological comfort to patients prior to, during and post-procedure.

  • Monitors electrocardiograph (ECG), blood pressure and other hemodynamic parameters during procedure in the CCL.Assistswith intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), other cardiac assist devices, and sets-up/removes arterial and venous lines, as needed in the CCL, CCU and ICU. Draws arterial blood gases (ABG) as requested by physician. Performs activated coagulation time tests to determineappropriate arterial/venoussheaths removal. Accompanies and monitors patients during transport. Prepares, arranges, and stocks equipment for procedure. Maintains/stocks inventory in assigned labs and provides materials manager or designee regular updates of expired products or products that should be removed from stock.

  • Document required data prior to, during and post-procedure and entersappropriate codes/chargesinto computer for statistical and billing reports. Discharges/transports patients from procedure room. Communicates/instructs patientregardingpost procedure site care instructions and precautions, asappropriate. Provides patient's family/significant others with information related to procedures, according to departmental policy and procedures.

  • Participates/responds to post-cardiac catheterization site bleeding, hematomas, pain, loss of distal pulse, etc., asappropriate, and document findings and resolution. Serves as resource/lead for the Cardiovascular Technologists in the Catheterization Laboratory. Orients/trains and providesin-servicesfor new and existing personnel, including residents/fellows.Assistswith more difficult/complex cases.

  • Ensures laboratory equipment is in good working order; performs Quality Assurance (QA) on various equipment,e.g.,Laser,Angioscopyand hemodynamic monitoring system, (blood gas analyzer), films, etc. Reports malfunctions toappropriate servicecontractor/staff. Administers contrast while the physician is in the room directing the administration and dosage.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Completion of a Cardiovascular Technologist training program and/or related college level education in basic sciences.

  • 5 years of experience or greater as a Cardiovascular Technologist.

  • RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) with CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International)orR.T.(R)(CI) - Registered Technologist in Cardiac-Interventional Radiography.

  • BLS (Basic Life Support).

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).

  • Experience in cardiovascular laboratory procedures, particularly as it relates to complex cardiac and vascular interventional procedures preferred.
