Position: Material Handler I
Location: Elk Grove, IL
Wage: $20.44/hr + $2/hr shift differential
Shift: Night shift 5:45 PM - 6:15 AM
12-hour continental shift 3 days one week, 4 days the following, off every other weekend.

While reporting to the Department Manager, you will be responsible for moving material throughout the plant/departments, in a quick and safe manner. Excellent attendance is crucial for the team to achieve success. You must have a proven record of success in a fast-paced environment. You must have the ability to work with fork-lifts, read work orders, etc. You will take pride in your personal hands-on and organizational skills and attention to detail.

What you will be doing:

  • Collaborating closely with other departments and teams
  • Having the ability to think on your feet and troubleshoot problems and situations
  • Fill orders from storage areas and warehouse stock and deliver to designated departments.
  • Operate power lift trucks to move/stack pallets.
  • Performing all duties as designated by supervisor/manager.
  • Performing all duties in support of Sonoco's quality and safety policies.

  • Previous experience with fork trucks.
  • You have to have a "get it done" attitude and an urgency to resolve problems/tasks.
  • To succeed in this role, you will need good written and verbal communication skills
  • You will need to be able to lift up to 75lbs. as needed.
  • Having the ability to effectively work with a team in a fast-paced environment is important to success.
  • You will need to have the ability to read and understand manufacturing instructions.
  • You will need to have the ability to work quickly while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and most of all Safety.
