Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The Division of Student Affairs is committed to providing an exceptional co-curricular

The primary mission of The Counseling and Personal Development Center ( CPDC) is to provide programs and outreach services to promote student engagement and assist in the emotional, psychological, physical and intellectual development of students with diverse backgrounds.
Description of Work Continued:
Primary Purpose of the Position:

The Accessibility Coordinator serves as a key member of the larger team of disability services
professionals and provides guidance and leadership in identifying and providing appropriate
access and support to students with disabilities. The position will coordinate the interactive
process for students with disabilities to determine eligibility, advise faculty, staff and campus
partners on accessibility and accommodation-related issues for students, and conduct training
activities to enhance awareness of the programs and services offered. The Accessibility Coordinator has knowledge of academic counseling, study skills training, classroom accommodations and assistive technology. Interpreting psychological tests is critical for this position. The position has a full understanding of federal regulations including Section504, Americans with Disabilities Act, The American with Disabilities Amendment Act (2008) and can translate these regulations for a lay audience. This position reports directly to the Director of the Counseling and Personal Development Center.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, Special Education, Counseling,
Social Work, or a Higher Education related discipline from an accredited institution.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of progressive experience working directly with individuals with disabilities.
  • Experience providing support services and/or academic coaching.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, training or experience interpreting federal and state laws regarding disability rights and their application to higher education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of understanding of disability rights and disability culture.
  • Demonstrated application of a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Experience in program assessment and evaluation.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to undertake independent projects and manage competing tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative partnerships.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively balance multiple and competing issues.
  • Ability to advocate for students with disabilities while maintaining collegial relationships.

  • Demonstrated ability in assessment of student services and use of assessment results to
  • make changes that improve the delivery of services and programs for students.
  • Excellent organization, interpersonal, and oral/written/presentation skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills and the ability to drive innovative thinking.
  • Experience with grant writing.
  • Experience working effectively with administrative and academic partners within the
  • University.
  • A positive attitude, high energy, innovation, and creativity.


Preferred Qualifications:
A Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, Special Education, Counseling,
Social Work, or a Higher Education related discipline from an accredited institution.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of progressive experience working directly with individuals with disabilities.
  • Direct experience determining eligibility for disability related accommodations.
  • Experience working in a college of university disability services office.
  • Familiarity with various neuropsychological, psycho-educational and psychological
  • assessment batteries used in the diagnosis of learning disabilities, mental health conditions,

  • ADHD, traumatic brain injury and interpreting the data from such reports into appropriate
  • accommodations for the post-secondary setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, training or experience interpreting federal and state laws
  • regarding disability rights and their application to higher education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of understanding of disability rights and disability culture.
  • Demonstrated application of a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Experience in program assessment and evaluation.
