JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position is 100% onsite work in our Emergency Department located in Burlington, VT.

This position is scheduled to work:

First week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday - 11:30AM-8:00PM

Second week: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday - 11:30AM-8:00PM

External candidates are eligible for a one-time signing bonus of $6,000 (prorated for part time role). The $3,000 bonus will be paid following the completion of a successful 90-day orientation and the final installment of $3,000 paid upon completion of one year (2,080 hours) of satisfactory service in the department hired into. Amounts reflect gross pay, prior to applicable tax withholdings and deductions required by law. Please note that current UVM Health Network employees are excluded from eligibility for this bonus. JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Patient Access Specialist ED is a fundamental part of the patient experience and is a key contributor to the financial health of the organization. The specialist coordinates emergent, urgent, transfer and admission access to the organization via ambulatory and EMS arrival, while ensuring the patients are educated, supported and financially managed while in the emergency department. This includes accurate identification, registration, insurance management, follow-up scheduling and ADT transfer functions. The specialist performs initial acute screening for ambulatory arrivals, working in tandem with technicians to expedite access to clinical care; he/she facilitates all financial management functions, interviewing patients at the bedside in collaboration with physicians, nursing and support staff in a highly acute, fast paced and emotionally charged environment. The incumbent functions independently, navigating complex regulatory requirements while coordinating activities across multiple disparate information systems to support emergency department clinical operations while delivering a caring message in a chaotic environment.

EDUCATION:
Associates degree, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
EMT Certification highly preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
Requires a minimum of one year's experience in customer service, registration, insurance management or administrative support in a clinical environment. EMT experience, medical assistant or technician in a busy clinical environment is strongly preferred. Requires an ability to work in a busy, emotionally charged acute care environment. Requires demonstrated ability to diffuse angry/emotional customers and handle pressure with excellent verbal communication skills.
