The Quantum Information and Integrated Nanosystems Group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory develops quantum systems, including theory, engineering, and control, to address critical future technology needs. Areas of focus include superconducting qubits, trapped ions, integrated photonics, and solid-state quantum sensing. The group's innovative research is supported by on-site state-of-the-art fabrication tools, close partnership with universities and industry, extensive test and measurement infrastructure, and daily collaboration with the 1700+ Ph.D-level scientists within Lincoln Laboratory.

Job Description

The group seeks full-time Technical Staff to drive research at the forefront of superconducting quantum computing. Our work spans foundational studies of noise mechanisms in qubits and demonstrations of novel qubit modalities to development of extensible platforms for testbed-scale applications. The successful candidate will join MIT Lincoln Laboratory's world-class team of researchers and leverage our industry-leading fabrication capabilities to address important questions driving the performance and utility of superconducting quantum technology.

The successful candidate will be responsible for setting experimental plans and directions; designing and simulating superconducting quantum circuits; developing measurement and control software; implementing calibration, automation, and benchmarking protocols; performing experiments; and analyzing and documenting results. Experience in some or all of these areas is required, either through prior work on superconducting qubits or within an alternate qubit modality. You will work with a team of experts in superconducting qubit theory, design, fabrication, and measurement, and a successful candidate will be excited to work collaboratively across this team. Members of the Technical Staff are expected to mentor and supervise more junior researchers, lead small teams of colleagues, contribute to program development and management, and help shape future research directions.

Requirements

1. PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Quantum Science/Engineering, or related field; M.S. degree and 5+ years' relevant experience; or employment experience demonstrating an equivalent proficiency

2. Prior experience in experimental quantum science with a strong track record evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations

3. Demonstrated scientific programming skills (Python, MATLAB, LabView, Mathematica, etc.)

4. Excellent technical and inter-personal communication skills

5. Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work successfully as part of a team

Desired:

1. Experience in superconducting qubit research through device theory, simulation, design, fabrication, and/or measurement.

2. Demonstrated record of innovation in quantum circuit design and theory, quantum noise characterization techniques, metrology of quantum operations, quantum algorithm implementation and characterization, and/or other advanced quantum techniques

3. Cryogenic system operation in low-noise environments

4. RF/microwave measurement
