Overview

Responsible for providing strong, visible, operational leadership to develop a strong organizational culture ensuring that the entire Renewable Services (RS) Field Operations team is consistently operating to the highest standards in safety, quality, and operational excellence.



Responsibilities

    Promote and comply with all Company safety policies and procedures
  • Responsible for managing RS field operations, tooling operations, warehousing, and operational safety teams
  • Serve as a role model to the field team utilizing technical understanding, prior field experience and positive interpersonal behavior to improve safety, quality, and operational excellence
  • Build a high performing leadership team to enable a strong culture to be delivered through Field Operations Manager's and field leadership; ensuring the overall business purpose, vision, values, and behavior is delivered through the technicians in the field
  • Build organizational capability by having regular reviews and personal development plans with each direct report and help coach and train them both behaviorally and technically into potential future leaders of the business
  • Ensure a clear strategy and operational delivery of coaching, training, and personal development are conveyed to help grow succession capability
  • Ensure all methods, processes, and operational ways of working, including end of project reviews, are owned and embedded by field leadership, ensuring operational rigor executing work scopes to Company standards
  • Understand all the service offerings and display experience in delivery of such offerings
  • Proactively manage the Field Operations Managers to ensure that operational gaps in performance on the existing works scopes are identified with corrective actions to close them
  • Ensure Field Operations Managers understand methods, processes, and ways of working and that they are properly implemented and utilized by the field teams
  • Ensure and hold the Field Operations Managers and Leads accountable for each project to have a Lessons Learned Review to capture essential learnings and that this learning is proactively shared with the commercial teams and through the field teams
  • Work closely with the Commercial and Operational Leadership to determine if MasTec Renewable Services has the appropriate documentation (Methods and Processes and/or Temporary Work Procedure ("TWP's")) and/or "know how" for all work scopes
  • Provide feedback on forecasted resource demand to ensure projects are staffed appropriately, with appropriate tooling, and executed efficiently and safely
  • Maintain knowledge across all the MasTec Renewables Services businesses to understand available staff and ensure that the staff are assigned based on skills, experience, efficiency, cost, and work scope
  • Support commercial discussions for "go/no go" decisions on projects based on staff capabilities and availability of qualified staff
  • Work with other internal Mastec Renewables business segments and 3rd Party Staffing companies to supplement the staffing of RS projects while ensuring processes and training, for the supplemental labor, embodies the same culture
  • Ensure field teams and Operations Support leaders create TWP's for work procedures when we do not have adequate documentation from customers
  • Ensure Tooling Operations of MasTec Renewables is an efficient operation by ensuring that the tooling team is doing the following:
    • Tools needed for job execution are arriving at site on time and within budget
    • Work with Commercial, Field Operations Managers, and Operations Leadership to develop and execute the annual tooling plan/budget
    • Manage the tooling expense budget to the monthly targets, including safety and training expenses
    • Work with Procurement to provide tooling requests for both expense and CAPEX
    • Work with Equipment Management on CAPEX purchases, putting the tool in service and tracking
    • Work with the Blade business line to coordinate blade equipment, tooling, and materials needed
    • Manage asset tracking and field inspections, using current asset tracking tool, generate reports on inspection results, damaged and lost tools, calibration, etc.
    • Manage/track tooling transportation costs
    • Provide reports to organizational leadership showing where project and tooling resource gaps exist, where demand exceeds supply, and provide suggestions for closing those gaps (i.e. rent vs buy)
  • Develop, manage, and lead the report out of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for project staffing needs and plans
  • Actively participate in strategic hiring initiatives
  • Interface with HR on employee development
  • Approve any Travel and Living Expenses outside of per diem related to field personnel
  • Oversee HR related procedures including recruitment, promotions, transfers, terminations, and salary changes
  • Provide feedback and performance related discussions on staff
  • Required to travel approximately 50%-75% of the time


Qualifications

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in quality, business management, construction, or related field experience preferred
  • Five years of Wind field experience, project planning and execution, resource management or equivalent
  • Experience and/or understanding in managing renewable energy projects or services resource staffing needs

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to execute and communicate project labor demand plans and potential outcomes
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of personnel at all levels inside and outside of the organization
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems independently
  • Strong and effective communication skills
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook

Working Environment:

  • When visiting jobsites, the work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
  • This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises
