Maintenance Mechanic

Position Summary: Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled and semiskilled work at the full-performance level in the mechanical or building trades in connection with the maintenance and repair of state facilities, institutions, and buildings. Work assignments usually require skill in and knowledge of maintenance and repair methods and practices in several building maintenance trades.

Pay Transparency:

Pay Rate is $41.20/hr

Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Service and repair heating, ventilation, and air condition (HVAC) units.
  • Perform scheduled predictive and preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Connect temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source.
  • Install air and water filters in completed installation.
  • Wrap pipes in insulation and secure in place.
  • Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches and fuses to repair installed units.
  • Respond to self and customer generated work requests.
  • Repairs and replaces walls, floors, steps, doors, window frames, tables, chairs, and other wooden articles or equipment using saws, power and hand tools.
  • Repairs and replaces lighting fixtures, bulbs, switches, and wiring; installs simple electrical equipment and assists in installation and repair of electrical equipment.
  • Repairs and replaces sinks, toilets, faucets, pipes, drains, and water lines; unstops toilets, drains and sewer lines; cleans grease traps.
  • Performs masonry repair work such as preparing cement, installing reinforcing steel rods, patching and finishing cement work, and replacing damaged masonry.
  • Paints window frames, tables, chairs, buildings, sheds, rooms, and equipment.
  • Tests water (boiler, cooling tower, etc.) and adds chemicals as needed.
  • Gathers and disposes of trash and waste materials.
  • Moves furniture, loads and unloads supplies, moves equipment by hand or with dollies and performs other manual tasks.
  • Repairs and maintains tools and equipment used.
  • May perform building service work such as sweeping, mopping and vacuuming floors and washing walls, windows, mirrors and fixtures.
  • May perform routine grounds work such as mowing and trimming, removing snow, sweeping sidewalks, and picking up trash.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Lead Engineer.



Qualifications:



  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a Universal CFC certification.
  • Two (2) years of experience in building maintenance or as a helper in a building trade.
  • Knowledge of the standard methods, practices, tools and equipment used in a variety of building maintenance trades.
  • Must be able to lift 45 pounds.
  • Ability to safely operate tools and equipment used in building maintenance.
  • Ability to perform routine carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and masonry work.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.



WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is typically based in a busy office environment and subject to frequent interruptions. Business work hours are Wednesday-Saturday from 4:00pm to 2:00am, however some extended or weekend hours may be required.
