POSITION TITLE: Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Field Technician I

FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) DESIGNATION: Hourly, Non-exempt

OBJECTIVE:

A SUE Field Technician I must be able to work in a team environment as a member of a SUE crew assisting in the performance of subsurface utility engineering (SUE) location utilizing the latest equipment and surveying technologies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  • Assist SUE Field Supervisor and other crew members with all aspects of the daily crew workload.
  • Operate SUE instrumentation and equipment such as global positioning systems (GPS), data collectors, EM locaters, ground penetrating radar, and vacuum excavation equipment.
  • Assist in the performance of SUE surveys to ascertain the locations of man-made structures on the Earth's surface, underground and underwater.



OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Ensure safekeeping of equipment.
  • Read and Interpret construction, utility, and survey maps.
  • Ensure vehicle and supplies and ready for duty.



COMPETENCIES:



  • Knowledge.

    • Basic understanding and knowledge of Subsurface Utility Engineering.




  • Skills.

    • Basic use of arithmetic and mathematics to perform calculations.
    • Basic computer skills
    • Fluent and comprehensive understanding of the English language including reading, writing, and speaking required.

REQUIRED (MINIMUM) QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Pass a Drug Test
  • Dependable and physically able to work outdoors and on construction sites in all weather conditions.
  • Willing and able to work overtime as required.


  • Years of relevant work experience.

    • None required.




  • Education.

    • High School Degree or Equivalent




  • Certifications/Licenses.

    • None required.




  • Driver's License.

    • Possess a valid driver's license
    • Must be able to pass a driving record check.





PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • 0-2 years of relevant work experience
  • Completed Advanced Utility Locating Training Course. You will be required to complete this course within your first six months of employment.
  • Experience with GPR, EM locating Equipment, Vacuum Excavation, and GPS equipment and software preferred, such as Radiodetection, Metrotech/Vivax, Mala, and Vacmasters.
