SUMMARY:

Responsible to develop and supervise the EFCO LLC Transportation/Logistics Department. Provides leadership and direction to include: transportation, company truck drivers, rented or leased transportation equipment, D.O.T. Compliance, freight load planning and transportation provider relationships. Will work with other EFCO and AFS (Architectural Frame Systems) divisions to find synergies within AFS.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for the identification, development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures that support total customer satisfaction.
  • Responsible for the development of all plans associated with the distribution of shipments to customers, facilities, coordinating internal and external transportation functions.
  • Primarily responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of the shipping and transportation routine.
  • Interfacing with manufacturing, lean-cell planning, and procurement personnel, as well as Operations Management, on finished goods, with some responsibilities with inbound raw materials status and internal plant to plant deliveries.
  • Interfacing with Sales, Customer Service, and Executive staff regarding operations planning, and lead times for delivery of shipments to customers.
  • Monitoring and reporting compliance to policies and key performance indicators.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives within the Shipping and Logistics Transportation team.
  • Working closely with Operations Management to participate in supply chain delivery scheduling and transportation on EFCO Company equipment.
  • Responsible for the selection and development of proper staffing needs associated with the short and long term objectives of the Transportation, Logistics and Dispatch team functions.
  • Reviewing backorders and potential backorders daily and expediting fulfillment.
  • Responsible to supervise the Transportation and Logistics function. Responsible to not only maintain and improve what has been, but to generate new, creative means to increase our effectiveness in this area.
  • Responsible for transportation relationships providing uninterrupted service. Assists in negotiating the pricing structure; helps determines providers.
  • Creates routing guide communication for operation of the Dispatch team.
  • Will be measured on Customer Service, safety, productivity, (transportation) costs.
  • Responsible both personally and through his/her staff to support continuous improvement.
  • Must consistently demonstrate support and leadership in CI/lean activities through education of team, identification of improvement opportunities, and active participation in events.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing and controlling procedures which improve the quality of the service provided by the Transportation and Logistics Department.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing and supervising all safety-related activities for the Transportation and Logistics Department to improve the safe working conditions for the department staff.
  • Working closely with Freight and Bill/Audit Pay services to facilitate the audit, approval, and payment of freight invoices.
  • Supervises Transportation equipment leases and rentals, negotiates pricing through equipment suppliers.
  • Monitors maintenance of equipment that is not under maintenance agreements, provides vendors to repair and maintain the equipment.
  • Works with DOT Compliance personnel or 3rd party provider to adhere to Department of Transportation Safety Regulations.
  • Participates in EFCO's Continuous Improvement efforts by understanding his/her team's performance and actively implementing and supporting process improvements.
  • Responsible to monitor monthly freight trends provided by a third party (3PL) and recommend changes in areas where improvements are identified.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises 5+ Dispatch/Shipping Coordinators, 4 Local Shuttle and OTR Truck Drivers. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; and five to 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
